Richard “Rick” Csutoras, Sr., 67, returned to his heavenly home on November 3, 2020 after a valiant battle with a long illness. His devotion to his family and his firm belief in God supported him in his struggle and ultimately gave him peace.
Rick was born to the late Frank and Kathryn Csutoras on February 26, 1953 in Flint, Michigan.
He was immersed in the Christian community that would be his lifelong support from an early age. He had a degree in Fire Science and served the community as a Firefighter for 40 years. He served his country for 23 years as a Master Sergeant in the Air Force. He continued serving as a civilian in public safety for an additional 17 years at MidAmerica Airport, Mascoutah, Illinois. He retired due to health reasons in 2013 as Chief of Public Safety.
Rick was blessed with a large and loving family. He married Lavonna D. Bell, on November 8, 1986 in Lubbock, TX. At this time he added Lavonna’s two children, Michael and Anissa Shelton to his heart along with his two sons, Rick Jr, and Brent Csutoras for a total of 4 children ages 6-11 years. Since 1986 he was further blessed with 3 daughter in laws, 1 son in law and 6 grandchildren.
Rick was an educator at heart. He was kind but direct. He always had time to answer a question or solve a problem, no matter how small. He is dearly missed by his loved ones, who celebrate the fact that he is at peace with his creator.
Rick is survived by his wife, Lavonna; his sons Rick Csutoras, Jr., Brent Csutoras and Michael Shelton; his daughter Anissa Steiger; his grandchildren Zachary Fields, Morgan Shelton, Payton Kolnicki, Chase Csutoras, Aurelia Csutoras, and Dax Csutoras; and his brother, Don Csutoras. He is preceded in death by his brothers James and John Csutoras; and his parents.
Rick will be cremated and remain with his wife until her death. There will be a celebration of their lives by family as they spread their combined ashes in Schwangau, Germany at Neuschwanstein Castle in fond memories of where they lived for the first 4 years of their 34 years together.

Rick was a wonderful friend, mentor,Biblical teacher, career, smiler, prayer, example of kindness and love. Rick will be missed so much. Glad our paths met and had the time to connect and grow. Love to the family. We were all blessed by you Rick!
Rick was one of the kindest gentlemen I ever knew. His love of family and God was evident in everything he did and said. It comforted me just to listen to him talk and give his opinions on this life and the afterlife. He will be missed by everyone who knew him. Prayers for peace for his family, and especially Lavonna who I know will miss him greatly.
