Stephen G. Massey, 67, of St. Petersburg, FL, passed away on Wednesday, September 7, 2011 at Bay Pines VA Health Care System.
Steve is preceded in death by his parents, Stephen A. and Lillian, nee Sterner. Survivors; wife of 43 years, Mary Madelin (Gugliemello); his sons, Christopher S, St. Petersburg, FL, Wayne J. Massey, Eddystone, PA; brother, Daniel F. (Debbie); two grandsons, Christopher J., Eddystone, PA, and Logan H., Gulfport, FL; and nephews, Jason and Eric.
Steve was born July 11, 1944 and raised in Southwest Philadelphia and schooled at St. Clements and West Catholic for boys in 1962. He married his high school sweetheart, Mary Madelin Gugliemello on June 3, 1967 with the honorable Bishop Gerald V. McDevitt, his uncle, and cousin Father John Driscoll, President of Villanova University, officiating.
He served in Air Force in Vietnam and Air National Guard. Also belonged Civil Air Patrol GHEIA at the Philadelphia International Airport. He was involved as Disaster Director for 3 states, and taught courses for FEMA. He loved teaching and helping people in need. He retired from Metropolitan Life Insurance in 1988.
Steve loved being with people. In the last years being confined to his home, he got involved as a Ham Radio Operator, and Skyware. His call sign was K4SGM. He loved animals, especially his cats and his long companion, Tabby, his labrador. He was a computer buff and enjoyed rebuilding them. He had a dry sense of humor, never knowing what was coming out of his mouth. He will be loved and greatly missed. His presence will always be with his family.

Graveside services with full military honors by American Legion Post #273 will be presented at 12:45 p.m. on Monday, September 12, 2011 at Bay Pines National Cemetery, 10000 Bay Pines Blvd., Bay Pines 33744, (727) 398-9426.

Steve was a great man with a big heart and will be missed by many people!
Steve was a really good friend of my fiance’s family, the Wendeborn’s. I never met him but have heard many good things about him. His family and friends are in my thoughts and prayers and I am sorry for your loss.
Uncle Steve had the heartiest laugh. You couldn’t help but smile and laugh with him. My heart is broken for you and the family. I will forever hold him in my heart. I can still feel his great big bear hugs. Love you!
Stve’s presence wa always a joy. he was my first trainor at MetLife, always telling me the right things to do.
I will miss the hearty and often funny phone calls we had over the years and will miss him.
