Shirley A. Schleman
Shirley passed away December 7, 2011 at home with her husband of 56 years, Leslie J. Schleman and her daughters, by her side.
Shirley was born in Deale, Maryland April 13, 1939. She had 3 brothers and 5 sisters.
Shirley is survived by her five daughters, Cindy Jones, Sharon Wild, Kathy Lloyd, Esther Schleman and Leslie Barton. She had 10 grandchildren and 5 great grandchildren.
Shirley was owner of Brandywine Stables located in Lutz Florida, for 32 years. During these years she often held summer riding camps with the assistance of her daughters. After the closing the stables she then became president and owner of Schleman Plumbing Service Company.
Shirley loved life, and enjoyed being surrounded by her husband, daughters, grandchildren and great grandchildren. Anyone that knew her knew she loved working in her yard which became a haven for butterflies, birds, ducks, deer and an occasional stray cat or dog, that immediately became part of the family.
In her leisure time she enjoyed traveling the country and abroad with her husband, sister, Mary Ellen and her brother in law, Bob.

I have thought about my dear second family over the years. As a child Shirley and Arthur were teenagers, and we always looked up to them. Remembering all the sisters and brothers of the Hinton family puts a big smile on my face. They took care of me and my brother and sister. She touched the lives of many youths in the equine industry and loved the horses she cared for. She will be misses by all.
We enjoyed doing the veterinary work at Brandywine for many years. Shirley was one of our most thoughtful and loyal clients. We will always remember the birthday party for us organized by Shirley and The Hole in the Wall Gang. We still have and treasure the plaques that were presented to us that day. Our prayers are with all of you, and we pray that your good memories will sustain you in this time of grief.
So sad to see that Shirley passed away. My sister Mickey and I were friends with Shirley when we were in our early teens.

I was going to go visit my Aunt Shirley a few weeks ago and then life caught up with me. I had the end of school and papers and exams and I let my moment slip away. I grew up on my Aunt Shirley and Uncle Leslie’s farm. From a very young age I learned how to ride horses and care for something other than myself. It stands as one of the best memories in my life. I thank her for knowing who she was because it helped me become who I am. I will miss her.
Mrs. Schleman was a very strong woman. She could take charge of any situation. I remember all the summers and friends that came and went from Brandywine Stables. So many parties and many good times. She will forever be missed. Love to all the family and many childhood memories to remember. Love you all, Annie

I made a lot of friends at Brandywine and
still reminisce about all the fun times we

I owe Shirley everything I know about horses. I will forever be grateful to her and her girls for touching me and my childrens lives evrytime we get on our horses. Thank you Shirley and rest in peace in that beautiful barn in heaven.

Shirley celebrated life to the fullest in all that she did and was truly a remarkable person. She will celebrate her first Christmas in heaven with Jesus and all of her loved ones who had gone ahead of her. God bless and comfort my brother, children, grandchildren and great grandchildren. So sorry to hear of Shirley’s passing. I have so many great memories of when I boarded Britches at Brandywine many years ago. She took care of all of us and our beloved horses! My condolences to you all!

I was thinking about Shirley & Charlie just a few days ago! My father was Shirley’s dentist, so when I finally got a horse we boarded him at Brandywine, then the fun began! My childhood was wonderful because of Shirley, her daughters and the other boarders, they became my second family. I met my best friend, Leslie Bonas (who has since passed) at Brandywine. Awww the memories of happiness, fun, learning and horses! Thank you Shirley for your great presence in my life. You are missed!

Mr Schleman and girls, so sorry to hear of your loss. You are in our families hearts and prayers (the Ballard’s from 119th ave.). I trully believe even if she could come back now, as much as she loves you and wouldn’t want you to hurt from her absence, she is in such a wonderful place and healthier than we could imagine, she would choose not to ..knowing she will see you guys again…and if it brings any comfort to you think of how happy she is to see her loved ones that has gone before her.
I am so sorry to hear of Shirley’s passing however; her new journey has just begun! I am praying that those who are left behind hold steady to their faith and open their hearts to the comforts that God will provide. I have such wonderful memories of growing up with Shirley and her family on 119th, and know that she was welcomed into heaven by my mother (Betty) and Joan Walker who lived right next store with 5 boys.
