Gary J. Norton, Sr., 72 of St. Petersburg, Florida passed away on Thursday, December 22, 2011 from a short illness.
Gary was born September 29, 1939 to Florence E. (Cooper) and Walter G. Norton in Colchester, Vermont. He spent his childhood living with maternal grandparents, Cecile (Cauchon) and John Cooper in Winooski, Vermont. He served in the U.S. Air Force. Before his retirement he was a construction worker and plumber in Vermont and Florida. He has lived in Florida from early 1970s.
Gary is survived by his son, Dean and Kathy, of Largo; his brothers, Glenn (Arlene) of Colchester, VT., and Clayton (Joan) of South Hero, VT. and St. Petersburg; and his sisters, Shirley Smith of Greenwich, CT., Arlene (Ray) Morgan of Largo and Pauline (Gary) DiMarco of Winooski, VT; several grandsons and great grandchildren and many nieces, nephews and friends. Gary was predeceased by his parents, grandparents and a son, Gary J. Norton, Jr.
A graveside service with full military honors will be presented by the Pinellas County Veterans Council at 12:45 PM on Friday, January 13, 2012 at the Bay Pines National Cemetery, 10000 Bay Pines Blvd., Bay Pines, FL.

Norton brought light into our lives for a number of years and, hopefully, we brought the same light into his. We’re going to miss him dearly but will always find comfort in the memories his presence created.

Norton, very good friend. Some people called him Norty, he didn’t like that name, but I just called him Norton. If he needed a ride to the bank, I took him. If he needed a ride home, I took him. He always wanted to pay me, but I said NO, I’m your friend. But he said I’ll just buy you a beer then. I said No charge to friends. Known for 20 years or better, would not charge him a dime. I did nort know Norton very long. I met him thru Bob. He was a nice man-great personality. Always asked me- you still with this Guy (BOB) what do you see in him. You were one of Bob’s best friend…you will be missed by alot of people….RIP….Linda
Gary Norton is a man who will be missed and never forgotten by his many friends at Sneaky D’s Saloon. He will always have a special place in our hearts. We love you Norton. May God bless the family. Our prays are with you all.

Kevin and I are lucky enough to have known “norton” on a very personal level and consider ourselves prilvedged to have been able to spend the quality time we did have with him. Norton became a very special person and friend in my life and i deeply miss him. His smile just brightened up a room when he walked in. He was never short or evasive with me, only showed me true friendship. I will deeply miss you my friend and just know that your “girlfriend” and i will ALWAYS watch over you.
