Bob Ahrens, 90, of Greensboro, NC born November 6, 1921 in Queens, NY, to William and Esta Ahrens passed away on March 18, 2012.
He attended City College in New York before being inducted into the US Army during WW II. He moved to Zephyrhills, FL in 1950 and in 1952 went to work for American Can Co. in Dade City, transferring to Greensboro, NC in 1968 and retiring in December 1976. He then worked as a consultant for American Can and lived in England, the Caribbean and South America. He was a member of Friendly Avenue Baptist Church.
He is survived by his wife of 57 1/2 years, Mary Ellen; sons: Dr. M. Joe (Lynne) Lake Alfred, FL; Col. (ret) David (Sheila) Newport News, VA and Bill (Teresa) Greensboro, NC; ten grandchildren: Jason, Jana (Brian), Jennifer, Jaime (Mark), Lisa, Ashley, Joshua, Robert, Brittany and Brandon and six great grandchildren. One grandchild, Justin, preceded him in death. He is also survived by a sister, Elizabeth Beadle (Harold) of Hiawassee, GA, several brothers and sisters-in-law and nieces and nephews.
Graveside services will be held on Saturday, March 24, 2012 at 10:30am at Holton Cemetery, Wesley Chapel, FL with Chaplain R. R. Helveston, US Navy, Retired officiating.
Memorial gifts may be made to Hospice of Greensboro, 2500 Summit Avenue, Greensboro, NC 27405.

When Bob came into our family, I thought he was rich because he drove a new Oldsmobile Super 88! Little did I know then just how rich he was. He was so rich in love, humor, patience and compassion. I shall always miss him.
Our family extends our deepest condolences to all the family. Uncle Bob was truly a wonderful man and will be greatly missed! We know that he is in a better place now.

Sorry I did not catch any other notice due to computer difficulties. I think back to your volunteer service in the Dominican Republic. American Can sure had a terrific employee.
