Robert L. Spillman, AMH1-US Navy-Korean and Vietnam War Veteran, 77, of Springville, IN. Funeral services are 2:00 PM, Monday, July 23, 2012 at the Marion National Cemetery, 1700 East 38th Street, Marion, IN # 46952 with Chaplin Tom Mansbargar and the United States Navy Funeral and Honors Team, to officiate.
A native of Morgan County, IN and a local resident since 1990, when he moved here from Houston, TX; he was a retired truck driver, a member of the Masonic Lodge and of the Methodist faith. A US Navy veteran of the Korean and Vietnam War; he was an AMH1 in the Navy assigned to the VF-211 Squadron at NAS Miramar, CA. His squadron, “Fighting Checkmates” flew the F-8J “Crusader” aircraft. During his military career, he was awarded the Vietnam Service Medal; Good Conduct Medal (1st Award) and the National Defense Medal (2nd Award).
He is survived by his loving family: his wife, Judith Spillman of Springville, IN; three sons: Jerry Hobbs of Bloomington, IN, Doug Hobbs of Columbus, IN and Stacy Spillman of Springville, IN; a sister, Connie Fagan of Beverly Hills, FL; five grandchildren; Carrie McCloud, Jeremy Hobbs, Michael and Robert Spillman, Dustin New and three great-grandchildren; Paige McCloud, Caleb McCloud and Tyler McCloud.
Special thanks to the grandchildren, Michael and Robert for all of their love and support through this difficult time.
