Eugene Peter Bates, 86 of St. Petersburg, FL passed away on Monday, October 1, 2012 at Bay Pines VA Health Care System.
Born May 27, 1926 in Evanston, IL, he was the son of the late, Eugene R. and Caroline Bates. A US Navy veteran of WWII, Gene served in active duty from June 1944 to February 1946 in both the American and Pacific Theaters. He was assigned to the USS Guam as a radio operator and he participated in the Philippine Liberation. He was awarded the rank of Seaman First Class.
Gene graduated from the Art Institute of Pittsburgh in 1954, moved to St. Petersburg in the early 1960's, and became a self employed Display Artist. He was a history buff and enjoyed dancing.
Interment will be at Bay Pines National Cemetery.
