Gilliam, Dorothy “Dot” (nee Gilda), 79, of Clearwater, FL, formerly of St. Charles, MO, passed to the hands of the Lord on Sunday, March 24, 2013 at Brookside Hospice House, Palm Harbor.

Dot graduated with honors from Beaumont High School, Class of 1950. She was a member of the first women’s soccer league in the USA (1950-51). She was married at Camp Chaffee, AR on October 27, 1951 by Chaplain Michael P. Owens.  She was the personal secretary of Congressman Harold Volkmer in Washington, DC for 11 years, and retired as a secretary at Washington University, St. Louis, MO in 1987. Dot was a past member of American Legion Post 273 Auxiliary, Madeira Beach.  She worked with the Philadelphia Phillies in Clearwater during Spring Training.  She was an avid reader and Jeopardy fan, and she enjoyed swimming and dancing.  She loved everyone who knew her and was loved by all.

She was preceded in death by her son, Robert.  Survivors include her husband of 61 years, Ray “Goose” Gilliam; four sons, Raymond Mark, Timothy, James, and Daniel; daughter, Karen Stewart; six grandchildren, Jennifer Mesker, Michael Cornwell, Melissa, Kenneth, Joseph Gilliam and James Nine; and three great grandchildren, Casey and Madelynn Mesker, and Tristan Ford.
