Lynn E. Mestler, 84, of Clearwater, FL, passed away peacefully on June 22, 2013 after a brief illness, in the close presence and love of his family at Bay Pines VA Health Care System.
He had previously spent a few months in his summer home in upstate NY and was flown back to Florida by Angel Flight, accompanied by his son Tim Mestler and niece Bette Jayne Walsh, to fulfill his final wish and be transferred to Bay Pines Hospice in Tampa.
Born in Rochester, NY, Private First Class Lynn Mestler, US Army, served in the Korean War. He was the husband of the late Elsie Mestler with whom he celebrated a 50 plus year marriage, residing in Tonawanda, NY and then moving to Clearwater in 1969. Together they enjoyed traveling and loved spending summers in NY at their peaceful country home.
He is survived by his four sons, Jeff Mestler of Largo, FL, Tim Mestler of Clearwater, Brian Mestler of Bat Cave, NC and Scott Mestler of Black Mountain, NC; his 5 grandchildren and 9 great grandchildren; brother, Merton Mestler and sister, Sadie Squires.
Lynn was laid to rest in a private burial in Bay Pines National Cemetery.
A personal note on behalf of his family… we would like to extend a very special thank you to the wonderful flight crew of Angel Flight and the caring staff of the Hospice Unit at Bay Pines, all of whom made a heartfelt difference at a very difficult time. Your personal touch of kindness and compassion will never be forgotten and we are grateful to have had each one of you in our lives.

To Jeff, Tim, Brian and Scott….your dad will truely be missed. The bright side is that his final wish was fulfilled and that he got to do it “his way”…the smile on his face that morning said it all. It was an honor to fly him home and an experience I will never forget. Love you guys, BJ
