Kniese, Steven A., 62, of St. Petersburg lost his four year battle with cancer, Friday, July 12, 2013 at Bay Pines VAHCS.
A native of Troy, NY, Steve has been a resident of the St. Petersburg area for over 30 years. He was the son of the late Ernest F. and Jennie T. Kniese. A 28 year employee of Derby Lane, Steve leaves many friends and colleagues. He was a Navy veteran.
He is survived by his loving daughter, Jennifer Kniese of Tampa, FL; a sister, Linda (Paul) Mostek of Sarasota; two brothers, Ernest T Kniese of Tampa, and William J. Liberty (Ann) of Ocala, F:; and many nephews and nieces.
The family wishes to extend its sincere thanks to the nurses and staff of the Rehabilitative and the Hospice Units at Bay Pines VAHCS for the wonderful care provided for Steve during his stay there.
Services are private at the convenience of the family.

I remember when he was a little boy. Our last
contact was in 1993 at his fathers funeral in
Cohoes, NY.
I have know Steve about 15 yrs.Steve and I hit it off immediately. He was easy to like,and became a great friend. Of course our love for baseball made for a great conversation. I am proud to have known Steve,and happy to have met his family and other friends. I will miss you Steve,and also thank you for serving,and keeping this country free

I first met Steve about 10 years ago through a
mutual friend. We enjoyed talking about Rays
baseball as well as other subjects when sharing
dinners with other friends.
I admired his determination and resiliency during his long fought struggle. I came to discover that , inwardly, he was one tough
individual.
I will miss him.
So very sorry to hear about Steve’s passing.Knew Steve when we were growing up in Pleasantdale N.Y. My condolences to his family.
Working with Steve over the past 5 years, I could tell there was a military background, he appreciated things done right. He was tough on the outside not talking alot but a nice person if you engaged him in conversation. He said no fuss when he knew he would not make it, but his strength at fighting with tremendous interest in eating healthy was heroic.
i was lucky to have worked with steve at derby lane for many years. we had many good times and hundreds of laughs. this is what i will keep with me forever. my thoughts and prayers to his family. rest in peace my friend.
