Bill Sever, 76, of Lakeland, FL, passed away on Friday, September 27, 2013, at Haley's Cove hospice, located at the James A. Haley Veterans Hospital, Tampa.
Born in Chicago, IL and raised in Florida, Bill moved to Lakeland in 1978 after serving in the US Air Force for more than 23 years. He was a member and past commander of the Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 2297, and the American Legion Post 4, both in Lakeland.
During his career in the Air Force, Bill served with the 1st Air Commando Group in Vietnam where he flew in the AC-47, "Spooky" and later served with the 437th Airlift Wing as a flight engineer in the C-141 Starlifter. He was awarded Master Air Crew Badge and numerous Air Medals during his service in Vietnam, among other awards.
Survivors include his three sons Rory, Brett and Darryl; his daughter, Perrie; six grandchildren, Nadine, William, Michelle, Michael, Brian and Jaclyn; and great-grandson, Niklas.
The family will receive friends at 11:00 AM on Wednesday, October 2, 2013 and services will begin at 12 PM at Victory Assembly of God, 1401 Griffin Road, Lakeland, FL 33810. Interment will follow with full military honors at 2:30 pm at Florida National Cemetery, 6502 SW 102nd Avenue, Bushnell.

Bill Sever was my Uncle, a loving and caring man, always doing for others. I have many fond memories of the times I spent with my Uncle and I will cherish them as long as I live.
Good-bye Uncle Bill, I hope that you are now at peace and will rest easy for all eternity.
May God Open the gates of Heaven and receive this hero with full honors.
