Doris Catherine Buckley Szabo, 87, of Largo, FL passed away on October. 5, 2013 at Wrights Nursing and Rehabilitation Center, Seminole, after a long illness.

She is survived by her husband of 63 years, Stephen A. Szabo, Sr.; two children, Stephen A. Szabo, Jr. (Maggie) and Holly James (Gregory), all of Largo; two sisters, Joan Armstrong of St. Petersburg and Nancy Scott of South River, NJ; brother, Albert Mayo of Edison, NJ; sister-in-law, Connie Buckley of Holmdel, NJ; and five grandchildren: Matthew Szabo, Marc Szabo (Amanda), Katie Szabo, William James, and Nicholas James. She was preceded in death by her sister, Ruthie Mayo and brother, James Buckley. 

Doris was born in New Brunswick, NJ and graduated from St. Peters High School. She was employed by the War Manpower Commission and later the New Jersey State Employment Service. After marriage in 1950 to Stephen, she returned to work as a medical secretary for Dr. Eugene Childers of Edison, NJ. She was accomplished in oil painting, sculpture and stain glass which she also taught to children in afterschool programs in Edison, NJ. The family moved to St. Petersburg Beach, FL in 1979 where she was secretary for The Belle Vista Civic Association, and was on the St. Petersburg Beach Planning and Zoning Board. She relocated to Harbor Bluffs, FL in 1994, where she enjoyed cooking, gardening and spending time with her grandchildren.

A Mass will be celebrated at 11:00 AM on Saturday, October 12th at St. Patrick Catholic Church, 1507 Trotter Road, Largo.  The family will receive friends one hour prior.  Donations can be made in the name of Doris Szabo, to the Alzheimer’s Association, Gulf Coast Chapter, 14010 Roosevelt Blvd, Suite 709, Clearwater, FL 33762.
