LTC Marvin Paul Breithaupt, USArmy Ret., 81, of Oldsmar, passed away on October 18, 2013 at the North Pinellas Care Center (Brookside Hospice House) under the care of Suncoast Hospice.

Born in Topeka, KS, he served in the US Army for more than 25 years.  He was awarded the Bronze Star Medal, the Air Medal, National Defense Service Medal, Vietnam Service Medal with RVN Advisory Campaign Star, RVN Honor Medal First Class, the RVN Campaign Medal, Legion of Merit, Joint Service Commendation Medal, Army Commendation Medal, and Armed Forces Expeditionary Medal.

Besides being an officer and receiving various awards, he had many hobbies including trains (real & collectibles), insects/reptiles/snakes, seashell collections (donated to DuPont), Blinko glass, and a large patch collection of Armed Forces which he would take to patch shows and trade conventions.  His Vietnam bug collections are in the Smithsonian museum and his shell collection was from the dead sea during his deployment in Saudi Arabia.  He dug for antique bottles while stationed in Panama Canal and we went through several typhoons while stationed in Okinawa. He was a master gardener and loved Halloween, liver & onions, meatloaf and limburger cheese. 

Survivors include his wife of 60 years, Mary E; four children: Susan Kennedy, David Breithaupt, Polly Breithaupt, John Beithaupt; eight grandchildren: Tyrone, Nichole, Trevor, Brendan, Conlan, Bridgett, Audrey, and Grace; two daughters in law, Jean and Ingrid; son in law, Victor; sister, Mary Weiner; brother, Robert Breithaupt and their spouses.  He has touched the lives of many neighbors and coworkers. He knew all the neighborhood dogs by name and welcomed them with a treat.

A graveside service with full military honors will be presented by the Marion County Memorial Honor Guard at 11:00 AM on Friday, November 15, 2013 at Florida National Cemetery, 6503 SW 102nd Avenue, Bushnell.
