LTC Marvin Paul Breithaupt, USArmy Ret., 81, of Oldsmar, passed away on October 18, 2013 at the North Pinellas Care Center (Brookside Hospice House) under the care of Suncoast Hospice.
Born in Topeka, KS, he served in the US Army for more than 25 years. He was awarded the Bronze Star Medal, the Air Medal, National Defense Service Medal, Vietnam Service Medal with RVN Advisory Campaign Star, RVN Honor Medal First Class, the RVN Campaign Medal, Legion of Merit, Joint Service Commendation Medal, Army Commendation Medal, and Armed Forces Expeditionary Medal.
Besides being an officer and receiving various awards, he had many hobbies including trains (real & collectibles), insects/reptiles/snakes, seashell collections (donated to DuPont), Blinko glass, and a large patch collection of Armed Forces which he would take to patch shows and trade conventions. His Vietnam bug collections are in the Smithsonian museum and his shell collection was from the dead sea during his deployment in Saudi Arabia. He dug for antique bottles while stationed in Panama Canal and we went through several typhoons while stationed in Okinawa. He was a master gardener and loved Halloween, liver & onions, meatloaf and limburger cheese.
Survivors include his wife of 60 years, Mary E; four children: Susan Kennedy, David Breithaupt, Polly Breithaupt, John Beithaupt; eight grandchildren: Tyrone, Nichole, Trevor, Brendan, Conlan, Bridgett, Audrey, and Grace; two daughters in law, Jean and Ingrid; son in law, Victor; sister, Mary Weiner; brother, Robert Breithaupt and their spouses. He has touched the lives of many neighbors and coworkers. He knew all the neighborhood dogs by name and welcomed them with a treat.
A graveside service with full military honors will be presented by the Marion County Memorial Honor Guard at 11:00 AM on Friday, November 15, 2013 at Florida National Cemetery, 6503 SW 102nd Avenue, Bushnell.

He was a wonderful neighbor always ready with a treat for Bugsy who preferred to have him throw the ball for him; which he did. Marvin also was a great help in diagnosing my lawn problems and prescribing the treatment. He and his wife Molly
were always friendly and smiling when the walked by my house.He was a true patriot and will be sorely missed. God Bless you Marvin

All of us as neighbors will miss Marvin dearly. He was the consummate neighbor to everyone. Our dog Molly loved Marvin and she would watch from our house across the street until he came outside daily. She would then bug the hell out of us to go outside to see her pal Marvin. She not only loved the treats, but the way he would tussle her head and fluff her ears. She still looks for him daily. We will all miss you neighbor, rest in peace dear friend.
Marvin and I have a lot of happy memories from our days in Topeka, Kansas. We had a lot of Farm friends at the United Methodist church that were uniquely named after their German heritige. As boys we did not appreciate this!
Marvin and I both attended Topeka High School and Kansas State University. We had a happy life and a lot of friends. We also had a younger sister that bore the brunt of our adventures.
Marvin and our little sister, Mary, had many happy memories from Topeka, Kansas. We were blessed with a loving family and many friends.
After High School I followed Marvin and his wife Mary to Kansas State for college. He had a wonderful family. I will miss him!

Since Polly moved to SD, Mary would fly up and spend a few weeks with polly & Marvin would follow up driving to SD. This has given Gary, I & the staff an opportunity to get to know her parents. All I can say, is how Blessed your family is to be given such wonderful parents. Both of your parents fit in with everyone they came across, as if they had always know them.

I will miss this wonderful man! He made my college years and many years afterwards interesting. To all the family my heart is with you.
We were Lt together in Okinawa and Ltc in Panama and served several times at Ft. Bliss.Just today 1228,2013 saw his death given. I am so sorry to read it and mostly because we lived so close and didn’t know it.

I worked for then Major B. at Fort Holabird, MD in 1965 as a young LT. He was a good boss and a fine man. He made a difference. May he rest in peace. My thoughts are with you, his family.

My grandpa was a great man who always gave us a knuckle sandwhich. One time he even showed how to feed mice to his old snake. My 5 year old sister misses him greatly and i speak for all of us when i say we loved him and will forever miss ( that includes all the dogs in his old neighbor hood)
