Woodrow Samuel

Veterans Funeral Woodrow Samuel Air Force

Woodrow was born to Early Samuel, Sr. and Hattie Mae Samuel on October 13, 1936 in Lee County, South Carolina.  He came to Faith early in his childhood as a member of Sandy Grove Methodist Church.  He is one of eleven siblings, two of whom have preceded him in death.  He spent his formative years attending school in Lee County and graduated from Spaulding High School in Lamar, South Carolina.

Woodrow would eventually go onto serve his country as a member of the United States Air Force, which afforded him the opportunity to travel extensively state-side and abroad.  After serving several years in the Air Force, he was Honorably Discharged.  Upon returning to civilian life, Woodrow opened and ran his own custodial business at the United States Navy Ship Yard in Washington, D.C. for about ten years.  After selling his custodial business, he made drivers’ education and bus operation a life long career, first in Cook County, IL and then in Palm Beach, FL, where he retired.

While Woodrow’s childhood was spent in South Carolina, he also spent some time in the Midwest before settling in sunny, South Florida.  While he and his family resided in a couple of different cities in Palm Beach County, the lion’s share of his time was spent in West Palm Beach, FL.  In the summer of 2010, Woodrow and wife, Lurline, moved to Tampa, FL, which is where they remained until Woodrow completed his earthly journey.

Woodrow and wife, Lurline, were moving towards their forty-fifth wedding anniversary at the time of his passing.  Woodrow was not only husband to Lurline, but was also father to their five children, Nonita, Linda, Herman, Medgar and Woody. Woodrow was also a loving grandfather to twelve grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.  Woodrow was a supportive father and a doting grandfather; which is summed up by the saying on one of his favorite caps, “Grand Dad is my name and spoiling is my game”.

Woodrow will be greatly missed, but we do not weep as those who have no hope.  We weep now for current pain, but we rejoice also knowing that he was ushered into the presence of Jesus Christ when he exited this life.

Woodrow was preceded in death by his parents, his sister, Ruby Lee Slater, and his younger brother, Early Samuel, Jr.  He is survived by his wife, Lurline Samuel; his children, Nonita Carr (Husband – Elijah Carr), Linda Samuel, Herman Samuel, Medgar E. Samuel and Woodrow (Woody) Samuel II (Wife – Carmyn J. E. Samuel); his grand children, Cialita C. Carr, Dominique Carr, Seegan S. Samuel, Jocelyn L. Samuel, Ramone N. Samuel, Rais Samuel, Meg Samuel, Camille C. Samuel, Cameron C. Samuel, Cadence C. Samuel, P.J. Kaigler and Khris Kaigler; his great-grand children, Jahni S. Samuel and Jayvin L. Samuel; his siblings, Mattie Rogers, Wilbert Samuel, Earlene Robinson, Jerlene Brown, Betty Wingate, Trina Broom, Sandra Lee Bess and Doris Jenkins; also countless nephews, nieces and cousins.
