Our beloved husband, father, grandfather, brother and Pastor, Verl Green went to be with his Lord and Savior on Thursday, January 15, 2015, after suffering a severe stroke. He was born on March 4, 1923, in Springfield, CO to Jerry and Stella Green.
He is survived by his wife of 70 years, Jacqualine; three children, Nancy Selby (Jim), Don Green (Jeannette), Sue Yancar (Vincent); four grandchildren, Tammy Thomas (Doug), Meg Green, Paul Green (Janice), Kori Watkins (Andrew); and five great grandchildren, Jillian, Michael, Britlynn, Colton, and Jacob; and one brother, Jerry Green (Luetta).
He was an ordained minister and spent his life showing God’s love to people in practical ways. He began his ministry in the early 1940’s traveling and singing with Art Boatman and Charles Green while attending Southwestern Bible College. After graduation, he and Jackie began their lifelong ministry serving small churches in dozens of communities throughout Colorado, New Mexico and Texas, supporting his family by selling and installing floor covering.
His last 40 years of ministry were shared with his colleagues and friends, Don Lunsford (Beverly) and Tom Benigas (Phyllis) at First Assembly of God in Colorado Springs and First Assembly of God in Clearwater, Florida. He spent his free time at Pinecrest Golf Club with a group of avid golfing friends. He was a favorite among the residents and staff at the Barrington, where he resided in independent living at the time of his death. We love this dear man.
Services are scheduled for Sunday, January 18, 2015, at Clearwater First Assembly of God, 1739 S. Martin Luther King Ave, Clearwater, FL. A visitation will start at 3:30 pm and the Funeral Service will begin at 4:00 pm.
He will interred at Serenity Gardens Memorial Park.
Really admired and appreciated Verl. He encouraged me a lot when working at CLCS and was still supportive years later when our family needed it while ministering in inner city Philadelphia. I am very thankful for God’s love and encouragement shown through his life.
Verl Green was one of the finest men I have ever known. He was a straight arrow. He was a great steward of what God provided to our church. He and Jackie took an interest in Kim and me that we didn’t deserve or understand but time spent with them flew. The bad? A golf game that should take 4 hours took 6 because he absolutely wouldn’t leave until he found a dozen balls in the creek or ponds. We will all miss Pastor Green.
Pastor Verl Green truly loved God and people. It was an honor to serve the Lord with him at Clearwater First Assembly of God and Clearwater Largo Christian School from 1982-1990 where he kept us focused on our mission with his love, joy, humor, and administrative skills. We are praying for Jackie and the family.
I am so sorry about your loss. Pastor Green was a true man of God. He left an impact upon me with his kind words, and “down to earth” manner of living his life. May God bring you comfort.
So sorry to hear of the passing of our friend, Verl. We remember him from our time as Pastors at Dunedin. He was such a humble and faithful servant of God. Our loss is heaven’s gain! Prayers for the family.
I’m so sorry for your loss you are in my prayers
I have lots of fond memories of Verl. He was truly an inspiration to all who knew him. We all can feel good that he is in Heaven. The reward he so longed for. My prayers are with you Jackie, and all of your family. He will be missed not only by his immediately family but by the entire church family he so faithfully served during his life
Our thoughts and prayers are with all of you today. What a grand reunion it will be someday. That is our hope we have in Christ! Love you all. Hugs to all, especially Jackie!
Verl and I both served as the Pastor of the Assembly of God church in Strasburg, Colorado. It was just 30 years apart. When he was at the church my family attended the church. His partnership with the Lundsford’s is legendary. He leaves a great legacy of faithful and dedicated service to the Lord and love for his family.
My heart is saddened by the loss of this most compassionate, sincere, and stalwart Christian man. Truly his life long humble display of the qualities of Christ’s sacrifice, make him a genuine candidate for the title “Man for the Ages.”
We all will miss him. Yet we can all rejoice that his soul is protected and comforted in the hollow of our God’s hands.

Sending our love to your family right now. Thinking of you all.
Jackie: Pam and I were so sorry to hear of the passing of Verl this past week. He will be missed by all. We have many fond memories but none greater than his sharp wit that came through on every occasion. With our kids pastoring in Tampa the last few years, we so appreciated you both as well as Jim and Nancy in the lives of our kids. Our love and prayers will continue to be with you and your family in the weeks and months to come.
Love You, Dave & Pam
I would like to send my condolences to the Green family. Verl (and Jackie) was a very dear friend to my parents, Jim and Della Gardner. I am sure that they were among the first at the gates of Heaven to welcome Verl and are probably still celebrating with him. Some of my fondest childhood memories involve my parents along with their brothers and sisters in Christ. God Bless.
My condolences to Jackie and family. May the love of God, family and friends envelope you with tight hugs. Pastor Green deposited so much of God’s love while on this earth. I am grateful to have been a recipient of some of that. I know our Lord greeted him with ‘well done good and faithful servant’.
Well done good and faithful servant.
Jackie and family,
From the “Fulford” side of the family (my mom was Bonnie Fulford Behm), I extend my sympathy for your great loss. Certainly heaven became richer and earth poorer with Verl’s passing. Yet it is cause for celebration that for all his love, hope and service for his Lord, in one moment on Jan 15, 2015, his vision and goal was fulfilled! For those of you left behind, heaven definitely becomes more real and in the light of eternity it is just a short time until the time to be reunited. I know that you take comfort in this blessed hope. The Lord so blessed you to have had Verl in your lives all these years as your life-long partner, father, grandfather. Praying that the Lord God Almighty will be your strength for though you are experiencing great change, He hasn’t changed. He is still with you as always before.
Love, Judy Behm Boddy
Our dear friends,
We stand with you today as you commit our precious friend, Verl, to his eternal reward…What a celebration there must have been when he stepped from this life into the next… He helped so many people look to Jesus, who was the author and finisher of his faith, many who have gone on before him ..I know that mom and dad Maley loved and appreciated him so. They will spend time just getting caught up, I’m sure
Jackie, please know you are in my heart today, and will continue to be through the coming days. There will be hard, days ahead, but God will be faithful to you. He really does give a peace that will pass all your understanding. There are days of adjustment ahead as you make your way through life without your beloved mate, but you will always have the comfort of your friends and family.
If you ever need to just talk about what you’re feeling, or just need a friend, please call me… I love you big bunches! xoxo Julie
The Greens have been our friends for over 50 years, and he was always a kind, sweet man. They opened their home to us many times, and we were blessed. Now he is blessed.
