Maurice “Marty” McCormick


Veteran Maurice McCormick "Marty" Funeral

Maurice (Marty) G, McCormick, born on June 17, 1933 in St. Petersburg, Florida went to be with the Lord on Wednesday, March 25, 2015 at St Anthony’s Hospital in St. Petersburg, FL.  He was the son of the late Harry William and Della Bennett McCormick, and brother to deceased, William A. McCormick.  Survivors include his wife, Dianne McCormick; three daughters, Sherry Kay Kaminsky, Kelley Leask and Julie Tayler; stepson, Jeffrey Layman; sister, Sherry McCormick Deal Lyon; nine grandchildren and seven great grandchildren.  Marty attended Southside Jr. H.S.  and attended Florida Military Academy on an “Athletic Scholarship’, until the school’s closing.  He then served in the U.S. Air Force for four years.  Upon returning to the states and his hometown of St. Petersburg, he attended St. Petersburg Jr. College.  Marty went with Spalding Golf Clubs, Inc. in Atlanta, GA.  Marty later worked for several other Golf Companies in Chicago and California, where some of his clients were celebrities in the entertainment and movie industry.  He was National Sales Manager for RAM Golf Corporation.  Eventually, he founded his own company, Marty McCormick Sporting Goods, Inc. in Seattle, WA.  Years later, Marty returned to Florida and worked as a part time salesman for Golf Cart Systems, Inc., until his retirement, due to health issues.  Marty, a former athlete, who excelled in many sports throughout his life, loved watching professional sports on T.V.

Monday, April 6, 2015 at 2:15 pm, there will be a Military Burial at Bay Pines National Cemetery for family members.  The family and guests will share memories from 6:00-7:00 pm and a “Celebration of Life Service” following at  7:00 pm, which will be held at Bay Point Christian Church – 2001 62nd Avenue South, St. Petersburg, FL.  33712.

*In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made out to: R.D.M.I. – “Marty McCormick Compassion Fund”, c/o Steve Beal, 1501 85th Ave N, St Petersburg, FL.  33702 in honor of Marty’s love and compassion to help people  in need.
