James A. Sklenar


Veterans James A. Sklenar Funeral

James A. Sklenar, 90, of Brooksville, Florida passed away at the James A. Haley VA Hospital, Tampa, FL on March 30, 2015. His funeral service is 1:00 PM, Friday, April 17, 2015 at Florida National Cemetery, 6502  SW  102nd Avenue, Bushnell, Florida 33513 with son in law, Craig Clendinen, Veterans of Foreign War Post 10209 and the US Navy Funeral Honors Team, all officiating. Please assemble at the cemetery between 12:30 PM and service time.

Jim was born in Chicago, Illinois on September 12, 1924.  He spent most of his adult life in Tampa, Florida and moved to Brooksville in 2012.  Before retiring, he worked for the US Post Office for over 30 years. He was an avid bowler and played on many leagues throughout the area. He was a Veteran of the US Navy serving during World War II.   He served aboard the USS McLanahan; DD 615; USS Jack W. White DD 800, USS Goodrich  DD 831, USS Hanson DD 832 and also aboard and survived the sinking of the USS Quincy CA 39.  His awards and decorations include: European African Middle Eastern Medal; American Defense Medal; World War II Victory Medal; Asiatic Pacific Medal; American Area Medal and a Good Conduct Medal.  His ratings were BT1; WT2 and WT1.

Jim is survived by his loving family and his many friends.

The family requests, that in lieu of flowers, to please make a donation to the Hospice Unit at the James A. Haley VA Hospital, 13000 Bruce B. Downs Blvd., Tampa, Florida  33612 in the Memory of James A. Sklenar.
