Irma L. Marchiony, 94, of Birmingham, AL, formerly of Clearwater, FL passed away on Thursday, September 17, 2015.
Irma was born in Northampton, MA, on March 13, 1921 and graduated from Northhampton High School in 1940. She was one of eight children, five of whom served in World War II. As a Navy Wave she served as an Administrative Assistant for two years to several Navy Admirals in Washington, DC. She was honorably discharged from the U.S. Navy in 1945.
During the last months of the war, Irma met the love of her life, Peter Marchiony. Their married life began in 1945, and lasted until Peter’s death in 2012, a total of 68 years. She was a loving mother to four children, Bob, Pete, Victoria & Michele, who loved her dearly. She was also a loving grandmother to eight grandchildren and twelve great-grandchildren.
Irma was a very sweet, kind and loving person to everyone she met. She loved playing tennis and watching all types of sports. She amused all the family with her knowledge of sports and her playful “fanship”. She was a superb cook and loved to entertain. Her skill in the kitchen was envied by all who knew her, and gratefully passed on to her children. Irma’s life was totally devoted to her family. She had a wonderful life and leaves a wonderful family legacy behind.

Our deepest condolences. Our prayers are with the entire family. May she rest for eternity in heaven.
We love you Aunt Irma. Give Uncle Pete a hug from all of us. Rest in Peace…
Our deepest sympathies to the Marciony family. I am honored to have been a friend to her son Peter. Our prayers and sympathy are with the family. It is tough to lose a parent but there is comfort that her faith gave us all hope that our lives have meaning. God bless your Irma and enjoy eternity with God and your husband! Love you, Larry and Jeanne Long and the rest of the Long clan. Your family has made the world a better place. Thank you!
This piece certainly describes Irma to me. I have a fond memory of her (and Peter helping) describe and explain how to make homemade pasta from scratch! “Not hard at all, she said with a smile, just a little of this and do that….” It didn’t work that way when I tried it! Lol. Precious family. Love and prayers for you during this walk.
Our condolences on the loss of your mom. She is with your dad now and at peace . We’re so very glad that she had such a wonderful, long life and she leaves the legacy of a wonderful family. Love, Kathy and family
We are so sorry for your loss. Our thoughts and prayers are with you.
Dear Victoria, Michele, Pete, Bob and Family,
I just found out about the loss of your Mom. I’m deeply sorry for your loss. She was a great lady and Mom. She nurtured such a beautiful, kind and loving family. I am blessed to have known your Mom and Dad and your entire wonderful family. She truly has left a legacy of unforgettable love and memories. Please know my prayers and love are with you all.
Love, Ann
Words can not express how sorry we are for your loss. yOu are in our thoughts and prayers. Our parents are all united in a better place.
Dear Bob, Michele and Family,
We had the privilege of visiting with your mother at the Highlands since December 3, 2013. She was always a joy to visit with her. She always had a smiling face and happy eyes. We enjoyed being able to see the pictures of her family that were everywhere in her room. Also, we were always so very impressed by the care you, Bob, showed your mother. We know that you are missing her very much, but please take comfort in knowing that you were there for her. Unfortunately, we were on a pilgrimage to Fatima and Lourdes when we received word of your mother’s passing. We wished that we could have attended her service, but it was impossible. We will keep your mother and the Marchiony family in our prayers.
Cecile and Ed Diehl
Dear Bob, Pete, Michele and Victoria,
