Alice Miriam Lucas

Alice Miriam Lucas, 97, of Seminole, FL, peacefully entered her heavenly home on October 19, 2015, after a brief illness.  Miriam was born in Brockton, MA on July 6, 1918, the only child of Agnes and Harry Eklund.

While serving as a private Estate Secretary in Boston, she studied organ and became an accomplished organist and choir director at the Covenant Congregational Church of Brockton for 35 years. She also played the organ at a local synagogue and several funeral homes.

She married Walter Emerson Lucas on March 13, 1948 and had two daughters, Jane Hobeika of Blacksburg, VA, and June Anderson of Seminole.  She also leaves behind sons-in-law, Antoine Hobeika and Neal Anderson; five grandchildren, Mark Hobeika and his wife, Laura, of Houston, TX, Sarah Hall and her husband, Thomas, of Washington, DC, Laura Roman and her husband, Bradford, of Baltimore, MD, Taylor Geraghty of Indian Shores, FL, and Kelsey Geraghty of Orlando, FL; along with four great-grandchildren: Julia, Jackson, Martha, and Brandon.

Miriam loved to golf and bowl with her father and was several times a Women’s League champion at the Thorny Lee Golf Club in Brockton, MA. After marrying Walter she took up sailing and adored racing a Bulls Eye at both the Bourne’s Cove and Marion Yacht clubs.  The family all enjoyed sailing and relaxing at their summer home on Cape Cod.

She was a shining example of leading a Christian life by her words, actions and faith, and she will always be a spiritual inspiration to her family.

A gathering of friends and family will be held at 2:00 PM on Saturday, October 24, 2015 at First Baptist Church of Indian Rocks, 12685 Ulmerton Road, Largo, FL 33774.  Funeral services will follow at 3:00 PM with Rev. Gary Hunt.
