Richard H. Flynn


October 26, 1948 – December 25, 2015

Richard H. Flynn, 67, of Brandon, Florida, passed away December 25, 2015 after a long illness. Rick was born October 26, 1948 in Winchester, Massachusetts to the late Richard C. Flynn and Doris Humphrey Flynn of Beverly, Massachusetts.

Rick joined the Navy the day before his 18th birthday, and  went to Boot Camp at Great Lakes.  His first orders were for Millington Naval Air Station, Millington, Tennessee to attend aviation school.  While in school Rick married his high school sweetheart, Donna Tsoutsouris Flynn.

Upon completion of school, he was stationed in Guam with VAP61 Air Squadron.  While with VAP61 he was sent twice to Da Nang, Vietnam.  His second tour was at Whidbey  Island, Washington.  Rick’s third tour was back to NAS Millington, Tennessee to teach A&B  electronics school.  When Rick was discharged from the Navy he returned to Beverly, Massachusetts with his family.  He joined the Navy Reserves in Weymouth, Massachusetts where he advanced to Chief Petty Officer.  Rick worked for Union Carbide in Burlington, Massachusetts as a nuclear medicine representative and was transferred to Tampa, Florida where he later worked for Florida Power and Light in Parrish, Florida as instrument and control supervisor, where he retired.

Rick loved to spend time with his family fishing, snow skiing, snowboarding, tubing and whatever he could find to do to have fun and laugh.  He was a kind man with a big heart.

Survivors include his wife: Donna Tsoutsoures Flynn, Daughter: Colleen Flynn, Sons: Theodore (Ted) Flynn and his wife, Jessie Cox Flynn  and  Richard G. Flynn;Grandchildren: Amber Flynn, Alexis Zamorski, Theodore (Teddy) Flynn, Jr., Tommy Zamorski, Andrew Flynn, Adam Flynn, Max Flynn, and Bailey, his  dog and best friend.

Rick will be missed and always in our hearts.

A graveside will be held on Monday, February 1, 2016, at 2:00 PM at Sarasota National Cemetery. Military honors will be rendered by the United States Navy and VFW 3233.
