Dorothy Julia Anderson Luecke Benner, 94, of Lutz, FL passed away on Tuesday, February 2, 2016 at Renaissance Senior Living Community, Tampa after suffering from dementia for many years.
She was born July 29, 1921 in Chicago Heights, IL to Frances and Sven Eric Anderson and had 4 sisters. In 1939, she graduated from Bloom Township High School in Chicago Heights, IL. She was a loving wife of 25 years to her first husband, Robert F. Luecke, who passed away in 1968, and 33 years to her second husband, Charles F. Benner, who passed away in 2003. While living in various cities in Illinois and New Jersey, she worked in the accounting department of banks before retiring to Clearwater, FL in 1973 with Charles. Her hobbies included dancing, bowling, golfing, playing pinochle and games, and socializing with relatives and friends. She was loved by everyone she met and was a loving and caring mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, sister, aunt and wife. Survivors include her daughters, Janice (Doug) Irvine of South Bend, IN, Lynette (Fred) Speck of Wyckoff, NJ, Gwen (Jeff) Salt of Lutz, FL; stepdaughter, Claire Dalo of Jacksonville, FL; seven grandchildren, Sarah, Rob, Ryan, Kevin, Julia, Deanna and Laura; seven great-grandchildren, Anna, Alyson Mae, Thad, Sam, Mackenzie, Amber and Allison; brother-in-law, Gerald Luecke of Rockwall, TX; cousin Hugh Bergstrand of Tulsa, OK; fourteen nieces and nephews and twenty-seven great-nieces and nephews.
Dorothy was preceded in death by her parents, Frances and Sven Eric Anderson and her four sisters, Violet Anderson Luecke, June Anderson Nieman, Joan Anderson Blackhall and Gayle Anderson Seward as well as her two husbands, Robert F. Luecke and Charles F. Benner.
A memorial service will be held at 11:00 AM on Saturday, February 13, 2016 at Messiah Lutheran Church, 14920 Hutchison Road, Tampa, FL 33625. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to Messiah Lutheran Church-Bible Fund, Tampa, Florida or Alzheimer’s Association-Florida Gulf Coast Chapter.
