Michael Dale Stanton II-USMC-Retired Gy/Sgt. funeral service is 2:15 PM, Thursday, February 18, 2016 at Bay Pines National Cemetery, 10000 Bay Pines Blvd., Bay Pines, Florida with the United States Marine Corps Honor Guard and the Detachment 54 USMC Honor Guard, officiating.
A native of St Louis, Missouri, Gy/Sgt Stanton was born on January 27, 1963 and passed away on February 6, 2016 at Mease Hospital, Dunedin, Florida. Served in the United States Marine Corps for 18 years and retired because of a service connected disability. During his service time in the Marine Corps, Gy/Sgt Stanton was awarded a Combat Action Ribbon; Navy unit Commendation Medal with 2 devices; Meritorious Unit Commendation Medal with 1 device; Marine Corps Good Conduct Medal with 1 device; Sea Service Deployment Ribbon with 3 devices; Kuwait Liberation Medal; Senior Explosive Ordnance Insignia; Rifle Expert Badge; Pistol Expert Medal with 2 devices; Air Force Achievement Medal; Meritorious Mast with 3 devices; Basic Electronics Course; Telephone Switch board Repair Course; Staff Non Commissioned Officers Career Non Residence Course; Ordnance Explosive Disposal Course; Basic Ordnance Explosive Course; Advance Explosive Ordnance Bomb Disposal Refresher Surface Course; Breacher Course; Staff Non-Commissioned Officers Advance Course; Letter of Appreciation and Letter of Recognition. The first part of Gy/Sgt Stanton Career was a Telephone Technician and later part of his career was a Explosive Ordnance Disposal Technician. When Gy/Sgt attended the basic Explosive Ordnance Course at Eglin Air Force Base, his block tests and final examination scores were so high that his record has not been broken.
Predeceased in death by his father, Michael Dale Stanton Sr. and a brother, Brian Stanton. Gy/Sgt Stanton is survived by his loving family; his wife, Terri Stanton of Dunedin, Florida; his mother, Gloria Mueller of Wheatfield, Indiana and a brother, Timothy Stanton of Wheatfield, Indiana. “SEMPER FI”
Mike will be missed by many, Remembering him from the good days in High School and last time I had Seen him in Birchwood when he was here, having a good time with his friends.. It tells us all that life can be shortened at any time. to be nice to everyone around you. Tell your family and friends how much they mean to you and how they are loved. So sorry to hear about Mike, he was one of my favorite boys in high school and a very familiar face at our house during his high school years. I am proud to have been a part of his life.
Uncle Mike was my first contact with the Marines. I remember going around Pendleton and getting to see all the museum pieces and learning all about the history and Marine Corps heritage. I was so excited the day i was able to call my uncle to tell him i was leaving for MCRD San Diego. His love of the Corps and pleasure of teaching me what it meant to hold the title of a United States Marine stuck with me all through childhood and still to this day.
Thank you for being a part of my life and childhood uncle Mike. To my Aunt Terri I am so sorry for your loss. Please take comfort in knowing your husband made a huge impact to my life and all of those he led, mentored, and taught. He will be missed by many

So very sorry for your loss. Mike and I were classmates and friends for many years.I remember our families getting together for dinner and lots of visits. You are all in my thoughts and prayers.
Mike and I knew each other from 29 Palms and BEC. We then reconnected as Sergeants while in BOOST at NTC San Diego. Our paths crossed again in Okinawa when I was a 1STLT and he was a GYSGT. We finally reconnected through FB. Between each of these times much time had passed, but within 5 minutes it was like we had just seen each other just yesterday. Mike was a Marine’s Marine, a stud, and just a helluva guy. He is my friend and he is my brother…SEMPER FI w/ love Mikey! Condolences to Terri and his family; I’m going to do my best to be there on the 18th…

My deepest condolences to Terri and also to Mike’s family members. I knew Mike as a neighbor when he and Terri moved across the street about two years ago. Since that time Mike and I shared very frequent conversations during our dog’s early evening puppy play time; he with his pug Cassie and I with my Bichon Lily. Now Lily stares at their house…
Mike always commented and laughed about my habit of wearing socks with my Birkies. Sandals as he called them. Welcome to Florida I would say.
In the time I knew Mike I learned three things about him:
1. He loved everything Marines
2. He loved Terri and enjoyed making dinner for her when she was working
3. He loved his pug

Mr. CRAWFORD. Mr. Speaker, as co-chairman of the Congressional Explosive Ordnance Disposal Caucus, today I rise to honor the life and service of Gunnery Sergeant Michael D. Stanton II, United States Marine Corps, Explosive Ordnance Disposal, Retired.
A native of St. Louis, Missouri, Gunny Stanton was born on January 27, 1963, and passed on February 6, 2016, in Dunedin, Florida.
At the start of his career, Gunny Stanton was a telephone technician, but he soon took those technical skills and put them to work as an explosive ordnance disposal technician. When Gunny Stanton first began his training, he attended the basic EOD course at Eglin Air Force Base. While in training, his block tests and final examination scores were so high that his records remain intact to this day.
In the course of his 18 years in the Marine Corps, Stanton earned many awards too numerous to list in this space. He is preceded in death by his father, Michael Dale Stanton Sr.; and a brother, Brian Stanton. Gunny Stanton is survived by his loving family: his wife, Terri Stanton; his mother, Gloria Mueller; and a brother, Timothy Stanton.
While I know that his family and friends will remember him in their own personal way, I would like all of us here in the House of Representatives to remember him as a courageous leader and a fine marine who each day bravely faced the challenges inherent in the life of an explosive ordnance disposal technician.
