Robert Thomas Young


Robert Thomas Young, also known as “Tom or “Tommy”, died peacefully in Tampa on Thursday,  April 28, 2016.  He was 89.
 He was born on June 21, 1926 in Jackson, Tennessee, the fourth of six children.  He is survived by one  sister as well as his wife of 67 years, 3 sons, 4 daughters, 9 grandchildren and 11 great-grandchildren.
He served in the Merchant Marines during WWII as well  as the United States Army. Upon completion of his service, he began a 30 year career as a pressman at the Tampa Tribune.
He was a life long resident of Seminole Heights, a graduate of Hillsborough High School and enjoyed success with several small businesses.
He loved tinkering around in his garage, dancing on Saturday
nights (with the love of his life, Gerry) and helping anyone, anytime, anywhere.  He was greatly loved and will be greatly missed.
 A Mass will be held Thursday, May 12, at 10:00 AM at the Most Holy Redeemer Catholic Church, 10110 Central Avenue, Tampa, Florida with Father Allan Tupa, to officiate. Following this Mass, on Thursday afternoon, May 12, 2016 @ 2:00 PM there will be a graveside service at the Florida National Cemetery, 6502 SW  102nd Avenue, Bushnell, Florida with the Honor Guards of the United States Army and Veterans of Foreign War Post 10209, officiating.
A Celebration of Life will be held  from 4pm to 7pm on the 26th of June at the German-American Club located at  6111 North Rome Avenue, Tampa, Florida.
 In lieu of flowers, the family request that donations be made to Life-Path Hospice, 12470 Telecom Drive, Ste. 300-W, Temple Terrace, FL 33637 in the memory of Robert Thomas Young.
