Another SAD day Sunday, a lifelong friend, and fellow union representative at Allison passed on Sunday 5-15-16. Glenn Flanary, he served in the late 60’s, 70’s and early eights as a district committeeman on the afternoon shift at the Maywood Allison plant. He was also elected to his first UAW National Convention in 1970 it was held in Atlantic City New Jersey. It was the first for both him and me, the last for Walter Reuther. As young men we both enjoyed the convention and had memorable moments such as a short conversation with the GREAT ONE. Flanary also worked on the plan to gather some of the halls history and worked with the Allison skilled tradesmen to remodel the lake buildings, hall, build the eye care center, shelter house and the lawyers’ office building on our local union property, he was the Vice President at the time.
Like many others, both currently and in our history Flanary was a diehard UNION man, he fought for his friends and foes equally when he had the responsibility/duty to represent.
His friendship and mentoring will surely be missed by me, and the ones that knew him well.
There will be no viewing, nor public services for Glenn.
