Margherita Lampert, 94, of Largo, Florida was born on January 1, 1922 to Lawrence and Ursula Fiorillo in Naples, Italy. She passed away peacefully at Suncoast Hospice Mid Pinellas Care Center in Pinellas Park, Florida on June 27, 2016. She was one of ten children. She was preceded in death by her husband, Andre Lampert. Additionally she is survived by son John Bongione (Bonnie); daughter Anna Wilson-Barbetto (Jim); grandchildren John Bongione Jr. (Jenny), Lisa Bongione, Rebecca Manning (Jerry), Amie Wilson, and Stephanie Wilson; great-grandchildren Jake Manning, Natalie Manning, Anthony Manning, William Manning, and Dylan Bongione.
Margherita came to the United States in 1945 through Ellis Island as a World War II bride and worked as a seamstress most of her life all while raising two children in Toms River, New Jersey. Shortly after her arrival to the states she attended night school where she learned the English language and became a US citizen for which she was very proud of. Margo and her husband retired in the 1980s to Naples, Florida where they bought a home in Isle of Capri. Shortly afterwards Margo decided to return to work tailoring mens clothing and often talked about fitting Tom Cruise and his father for a suit while not knowing who he was at the time.
Margherita had a contagious laugh, enjoyed life and her family. She had a smile that would brighten anyone’s day. She loved parties, entertaining, baking and was an outstanding cook. Her baked Ziti and her Italian cheesecake were out of this world. But her true joy in life was her grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
The family will be traveling back to Naples, Italy at a later date where her remains will be scattered at sea in the Isle of Capri. It is ironic that she was born in Naples, Italy and retired in Naples, Florida in a community called Isle of Capri and her final resting place will be the Isle of Capri in Naples, Italy.
The family would like to thank the nurses and doctors at Suncoast Hospice for the outstanding care and support that was given to Margherita and her family during her final days. Any contributions in Margherita’s memory can be made to Suncoast Hospice.
Family and friends are invited to share a memory and sign her guestbook below.
Love and prayers to all. Margo will be missed but remembered for the joy she brought to so many.
I remember my first day of kindergarten 41 years ago in 1975, and my only wish was to be driven to my first day of kindergarten in Grandma’s gold colored Lincoln Continental Mark IV. Sure enough she was there that day morning ready to take me and I arrived in style. I was the first grandchild, and the only boy, so needless to say I could never do any wrong in Grandma’s eyes. I also remember trips to Florida when I was on spring break in college, and she’d have a red Mustang convertible waiting for me in the airport parking lot to cruise around in for a week. There will never be another GG, she was a one of a kind, and lived a long and prosperous life. Those that came in contact with her over her life I am sure can share a good story or five. She made her mark on people’s lives, and although she sometimes went about things in a less than delicate manner, she loved her family and would do anything for them. I leave with this last story, the day I tried to teach her to say refrigerator, as she always called it the FRIDADERE or the FREEZE in her broken English…it was the one of the funniest hours of my youth. You will be missed Grandma by me and Jenny (who loved you like her own Grandma), and of course Dylan, who will never forget the first time he met you, he often remembers it by saying that you hugged him so hard, he thought you were going to squeeze him to death…..RIP – We love you and will remember you fondly.
…..When I was 8 years old , as I was looking at the Photographs of my grandad (her brother) I was fascinated by this great aunt who emigrated to US from Southern Italy. I spent time looking at the pictures of Anna Wilson Barbetto, John Bongione, J B, Lisa Bongione Rebecca Manning, Amie Wilson. and Stephanie Wilson. I spent time writing letters to all of them. I remember asked my granddad. DO THEY REALLY EXIST? Does she really exist ? Love to all of you and my condolances…… Alla Salute…….Cheers zia Margherita. Anna MAria Pisanti – Caserta -Italy

I am grateful that Mom and I had the chance to get to know Margo over the last couple of years. She did enjoy a good party! She would always greet you with her kind and generous smile that would just warm you up. Anna and family, I know this is a very tough time but take comfort in the fact Margo lived 94 years, had a beautiful family that was evident that she loved, accomplished so much and made so many wonderful memories for you. We will greatly miss Grandma Margo. Our favorite memories included spending time with her and Pop at their place in Isle of Capri, relaxing in their kitchen or on the lanai, and listening to her tell stories about Pop and the Old Country. Our special moments together will never be forgotten, Grandma.
God bless.
I want to say a huge THANK YOU, for allowing me in your life. I will always remember our days in the
shower Margo!! Although at first, you didn’t want to go in, we had a great time, I will NEVER forget
those times, and that love you showed me. You were such an amazing person, that brought such joy to
my life. I remember the talks we had about Italy, and my grandmother. Easter when you woke up early
I was so excited, I thought you wanted to get up, when you really wanted to eat all the candy out of
all the baskets. And you know what, that was OK, it was a lot of fun.
Margo, you will be missed VERY MUCH!!! I LOVE YOU! Angella
