Ruby Jordan, 92, of Clearwater, FL, passed away on Wednesday, July 6, 2016, at the Suncoast Hospice North Pinellas Care Center in Palm Harbor, FL. She was born in Mulberry, FL and moved to Clearwater in 1951. She married her childhood sweetheart, John Lesley Jordan Jr., in July, 1942. This was just a couple of weeks before he departed for Europe, as a member of the United States Army, to participate in World War II. It would be nearly four years before the love of her life returned to her.
Ruby was a Florida native and grew up in Polk County. She was one of seven siblings, including Truby her twin brother. She was an excellent swimmer in her youth serving as a lifeguard and also played basketball for Mulberry High School. While her husband was away during World War II, she worked for Mr. Babcock at Badcock Furnitue in Mulberry. A few years after John returned from World War II, they moved to Clearwater where they became members of Clearwater First Assembly of God Church in 1951.
Ruby served in many ministries during her 65 years at the church. She ministered in the nursery, Sunday School, Women’s Ministries and helped to coordinate the funeral dinners for many years. She was a prayer warrior who loved to read her Bible and worship her Lord and Savior. She worked for a number of years at the Bible Bookstore that used to be at Missouri Mart.
She loved her family and each new addition was welcomed with open arms. She was a wonderful cook, great mother, grandmother and great-grandmother. She cared for and ministered to family members during periods of trials, illnesses and death. She enjoyed watching the Tampa Bay Buccaneers and the Tampa Bay Rays. She enjoyed the old hymns.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Logan and Helen Martin; husband, John Lesley Jordan Jr.; son, John Lesley Jordan III; brothers, LT and Truby; and sisters, Lois, Iris, Virginia and Betty. She is survived by her son, Terry Jordan (Carol) of Largo, FL; daughter, Joyce Kriever (Blair) of Clearwater, FL; 9 grandchildren: Kathy (Jeff) Rudolph, Angie (Roy) Jackson, Brandi (Jeff) Oliver, Jason (Nicole) Jordan, Jennifer Garrett, Brandon (Madalyn) Jordan, Richie (Randi) Kriever, Gavin Jordan, and Kaitlin Kriever; and 13 great-grandchildren: Jeffrey, Christian, Taylor, Ryan, Jordan, Jonas, Rhett, Kaylee, Jason, Jaxon, Caden, Lucas, Jai’anna.
Services will be held on Saturday, July 16, 2016, at Clearwater First Assembly of God Church, 1739 South M.L.K. Jr. Ave, Clearwater, FL 33756. A viewing will begin at 10:00AM and the funeral service will commence at 11:00AM. Ruby will be interred following brief graveside service at the City of Largo Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that contributions be made in her name to the United Family Outreach Food Pantry, 1739 South M.L.K. Jr. Ave, Clearwater, FL 33756.
To the Jordan family so very sorry for your loss. She was a great woman of God and to know she is at peace and with her Lord and Saviour makes it easier for you. My family knew the family since 1955 when we moved to FL. Have memories of the Jordan’s, Gouges, and Eubanks and my family (Fairchild) would get together after church on Sunday night and even went camping together. She is having a great time now with those friends and family that went before. Prayers are with your family.
Ruby was one of the dearest women I ever met and she will always have a special place in my heart. She was like a mother to me and I have many fond memories of her. I was blessed to have her as a part of my life. While she will be missed, it is comforting to know that she is in the presence of God and with those that she loved that have gone on. My condolences to all of the family. I know all of you loved her dearly. Prayers for all that God may comfort you with his peace and may you find joy in the great memories you have of her.
Much love to this sweet family. Ruby was a wonderful woman who knew what it meant to serve. She was such a loving and compassionate person to so many. I pray you all find peace during this time. Love you all!
Since I stumbled into First Assembly back in 1977, I’ve had much more time with her than my own parents. She was at church Sunday morning, Sunday night, Wednesday night, (back in the day) revivals, meetings, cooked funeral dinners, I probably am forgetting something. She made everybody feel like they were just barely under Jeep, Joyce & Terry. She should have been sicker through the years hugging and kissing church family 2-3-4 times a week for 70 years. She had favor. God help all of us to run the race like like Ruby did.
What a great lady. She helped many young women and men off to a good start with wedding and baby showers as part of her ministry as women’s leader at First Assembly in Clearwater. We all appreciated you Ruby. My brother reminded me that she was his Sunday School teacher. Many lives were touched and changed because of Ruby Jordan. Always faithful always present and I am sure welcomed by her Lord with a hearty well done good and faithful servant. JT and I will miss you and remember you always. Sorry for the family but oh so happy for Ruby. She finished the race, kept the course and we are sure a great reward. We will see you again. Probably sooner than we can imagine. Love to all those left behind. Be consoled by the fact that she is in heaven alive and well.
Ruby Jordan was the sweetest lady I have ever known. She was the standard of a godly woman that every woman should strive to be like. She had an uncanny ability to make everyone feel special and important. Her love drew everyone in like a magnet. I craved that kind of love and she never fell short in showing me love as only Ruby could do. What a precious soul. The Lord granted her wish and took her home. I bet her mansion is spectacular. To the family I offer my love and prayers for comfort. May your hearts be comforted with the memories of a woman who loved hard with an unwavering faith. She will be missed. I loved her deeply and was blessed to know her.
Ruby was the complete model of what it means to be a sold Pentecostal Christian woman … She knew how to pray and touch heaven and how to love like Jesus … She was a treasure to her family and church and to all who knew her … Praying that we all can take up her mantle to finish our course well!
Ruby was a beautiful example of a Godly lady! She was one of the Christians outside of my own family, who had a great impact upon my life for the Lord. I will always think of her puppet, her flannelgraph lessons, and her words of faith. I know she is rejoicing with the Lord now, and we have that hope to see her again. My prayers are with each family member as they go through this time of life. With love!
Ruby was such a sweet lady full of compassion & love. I remember many a night of sleep overs at the Jordan home with Joyce, & Ruby was always so loving & nurturing making us feel very welcome in her home. Forward many years & I can say I never saw Ruby without a smile on her face. She was gracious & had a joy & love for God. She was a light that will continue to shine in the family & friends she left behind. So happy that all of us will be together again one day.
Ruby was such an incredible blessing during our time at Clearwater First Assembly! She loved her Lord and each little one she cared for in the nursery! She was the first and only one we would leave our son Rob with for a year!! Her sweet and gentle spirit allowed Jesus to shine through her life always! We loved to hear her laugh and know she is enjoying heaven..present with the ONE who she lived to serve!
Our prayers are with all her family!
Ruby was an amazing and special person. I used to enjoy sneaking over to the Jordan house as a kid and catching wasps and bees with jars provided by Ruby. Terry and I would catch them in the Brazilian pepper tree beside the Jordan house. Ruby always had a smile and a kind word for me the neighborhood prankster. She will be missed.

Precious memories, Precious Spirit, Precious woman of God! Ruby, I love the times we shared together talking about our Lord at the beauty salon, after talking with you always made me want to be the best Christ like person I can be, I always couldn’t wait to get to Church just so I can say hi to you and watch your eyes light up and to get my weekly hugs of love. I will miss you dearly, but I know you are where you want too be, with our Lord and Family. And this song comes to my heart:
Then Sings My Soul My Savior God to Thee, How Great tho Art! How Great tho Art!
You will be missed, and my prayers are with the family for comfort and peace. When we all get to HEAVEN what a day of rejoicing that will be. ♡ Dan and Connie Laxton ♡
After reading the posts provided by others, I will simply say a big AMEN!
Ruby and her kids and grandkids were true Pastor’s friends and excellent church workers. May God continue to bless her family as they continue down the path she so carefully paved.
My thoughts and prayers are with you and your family at this time of grief. We can rejoice through our tears that she is now with her loved ones that have proceeded her and that she is walking the steets of gold and singing with the angels! I will remember her teaching me how to make a proper hamburger and her contagious laugh. She will forever be in my heart!
Ruby was a wonderful, sweet woman of God. I will always remember her bustling about, keeping things under control, whether it was in the nursery or the kitchen. She had a smile and a laugh that you couldn’t mistake and she could always be counted on to help, wherever it was needed. She was the perfect example of selfless love!
Love and peach to her family.
