William “Bill” P. Parmenter, Jr.


William “Bill” P. Parmenter, Jr., 87, of Seminole, FL, passed away on September 7, 2016, at the Mid Pinellas Care Center in Pinellas Park, FL.  He was born on Gloucester, MA and moved to Seminole in 1989 from Groton, CT.

Bill grew up in Maine (Boothbay Harbor, Bar Harbor) where his father was a lighthouse keeper in the Coast Guard.  He graduated from Boothbay High School in 1947. On January 3, 1951, Bill was inducted into the US Army and served during the Korean War.  He was awarded the Army of Occupation Medal.  He was honorably discharged on November 30, 1956.

He earned an undergraduate degree, a Bachelor of Science in Business Administration, from the University of Rhode Island in 1957.  He received his graduate degree, a Master of Arts, from the University of Connecticut in 1964. He then moved to Norwich, CT, and worked for the Norwich Free Academy and raised three sons before moving to the Robert E. Fitch Senior High School in Groton, CT.  During his long career in education, he was a teacher, a guidance counselor, Director of Adult Education and Director of Summer School, primarily at the Robert E. Fitch Senior High School.  He retired from the education system, after a distinguished career in 1989.

Bill was a member of American Legion Post 252 in Seminole, FL, where he served as 2nd Vice Commander and with the Honor Guard.  His wife, Carol, was the Post Chaplain for ten years. He was a family man, who loved being a Grandpa, and was devoted to his soul mate, Carol. He will be remembered as a “favorite” guidance counselor to many students. Bill loved to cook for his family and even for over a hundred people at an am American Legion event.

He was preceded in death by his parents, William and Francis Parmenter; his sons, William III, Daniel, and Peter; his brother, Frederick; and his grandchild, Ryan.  He is survived by his wife, Carol; son, Mason Andrews of Seminole; daughters, Becky Andrews of Seminole and Amity Prior of Jacksonville, FL; brother, Perry of Norwich, CT; seven grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren.

Services with Military Honors will be held at Bay Pines National Cemetery at 10:00AM on Friday, October 21, 2016.
