rthur Paul MacNeil was born on June 16, 1951 in Norfolk, Massachusetts to Arthur and Marjorie MacNeil. He passed away on October 23, 2016 at Largo Medical Center.
Family
Arthur was preceded in death by his son Billy MacNeil, brothers Billy and Danny MacNeil, and sister Jean Collins. Arthur is survived by his wife Dianne of 20 years; son Paul MacNeil of Hampton, New Hampshire; daughters Brenda MacNeil of Largo, Florida, Karen Mainville of Uxbridge, Massachusetts and Jillian MacNeil of Uxbridge, Massachusetts; brothers James MacNeil of Bellingham, Massachusetts, Richard MacNeil of Attleboro, Massachusetts, Russell MacNeil of Bellingham, Massachusetts; sister Judy Collins of Largo, Florida; grandchildren Sean MacNeil, Liam MacNeil, Teirnan MacNeil, Quinn MacNeil, Thomas Mainville, Jaclyn Blair, Joseph Blair, Elleigh, Kaylee, Jaxson, and Aaron; great-grandchild Ayden and many nieces and nephews.
Military History and Awards
PFC Arthur MacNeil entered into the United States Marine Corps on June 20, 1968 at Marine Corps Recruit Depot Parris Island, South Carolina. At the time of his discharge he was entitled to wear the National Defense Service Medal and Marine Corps Good Conduct Award on his uniform. Arthur was a 70% disabled Marine. After his honorable discharge Arthur was very involved in the American Postal Worker Union where served as both President and legislative director. He will be loved and missed by many.

Art always treated me with love,tenderness and care. The lives of my brother Paul, his other siblings, his sons, his wife and the rest of his family will forever be changed. Art brought such love, happiness, light and of course music into the lives of everyone he touched. You will be missed Art. Say hello to our mom. Much love to you the family at this difficult time.
Art was a true leader of union workers and Democrats. A caring man who loved his children and grandchildren and would speak proudly about them. Going to miss our discussions Art.

I am just in shock. One day you were excited about having the surgery, and the next day you were gone. Your last Facebook post still haunts me in which you said “hope to be talking about my surgery over the next few days, otherwise it was nice knowing you.” You just never know. May you rest in peace, and my heartfelt condolences to your family and closest friends.

Uncle Art, what an amazing man he was. I still can’t believe he gone. It doesn’t seem real. He was always a voice of praise and encouragement. He loved deeply and with his whole heart and he would make sure you knew. He was passionate and empathetic. He was the kind of man that would give you the shirt off his back if he knew you needed it. His memory will live on and in in pictures, videos, and memories. He had a great sense of humor and loved to make people laugh. I’m already missing his comments on all my Facebook posts and all of our Words With Friends games now remain unplayed. It’s so surreal. Uncle Art, I sure hope you knew how very much you were loved and what an impact you made on so many people, in so many ways. ❤️

Our condolences to Diane and Family. I know Art was proud of his service in the Marines, as we talked of it many times. Having served in the Navy there was always good natured ribbing between us and respect for the time we served. Artie was a great friend and union brother. We knocked on many doors together during elections, picketed on many union lines and supported not only the APWU but all of our union brothers and sisters. Your good work didnt go unnoticed brother and was appreciated by all who knew you. We always finished all of our union activities with the saying “the struggle continues”. Well we will take that over for you now brother so you can rest in peace.
