CWO3 Arestides “Steve” Cavadias, 67, of Hudson, Florida served our nation in the United States Navy for over 32 years.

CWO3 Arestides “Steve” Cavadias enlisted in the US Navy on December 11, 1967 in New York, New York and medically retired from the US Navy on February 1, 1999 serving during the Vietnam War Era, the Gulf War Era and the Kuwait Liberation Era. His awards and decorations include the Armed Forces Expedition Medal; Combat Action Ribbon; Fleet Marine Force Ribbon; Good Conduct Medal with 4 Oak Leaf Clusters; Humanitarian Service Medal with 2 Oak Leaf Clusters; Joint Meritorious Unit Award; Kuwait Liberation Medal (Kuwait); Kuwait Liberation Medal (Saudi Arabia); Meritorious Unit Commendation; National Defense Service Medal with 2 Oak Leaf Clusters; Army Reserve Component Achievement Medal; Navy and Marine Corps Achievement Medal with 2 Oak Leaf Clusters; Navy and Marine Corps Overseas Service Medal with 2 Oak Leaf Clusters; Navy “E” Ribbon with 10 Oak Leaf Clusters; Navy Expeditionary Medal with 2 Oak Leaf Clusters; Navy Pistol Sharpshooters Ribbon; Navy Rife Sharpshooters Ribbon; Navy Unit Commendation Republic of Vietnam Medal; Sea Service Deployment Medal with 8 oak leaf clusters; Southwest Asia Service Medal with 3 Oak Leaf Clusters; Vietnam Service Medal with 2 Oak Leaf Clusters and the Enlisted Surface Warfare Specialist Insignia. He career field was a Surface Engineer Technician and his schooling was the Officer Introduction School; Boiler Water Feed Water School; Engineering Propulsion Fuels and Oils School; Certification of CPR School and the Career Information and Training School. He was medically retired on February 1, 1999 form the Naval Training Center in Great Lakes, Illinois.

CWO3 family includes wife, Sandra “Sandy” Cavadias of New Port Richey, Florida; his mother, Sussana (Vlasopoulou) Matarangas of Bergenfield, New Jersey; his sons: Edward Cavadias and his wife, Teresa of Charleston, South Carolina; Arthur Cavadias and his wife, Rosangel Alceqyez of Tenafly, New Jersey; Scott Lookabaugh and his wife, Codi of Grants Pass, Oregon; Damaskinos Cavadias of Charleston, South Carolina and Anastasios Cavadias of Charleston, South Carolina; daughters: Ann Kirby and her husband, Kory of Summerville, South Carolina; Kerri Lookabaugh of Spring Hill, Florida and Kelli Lookabaugh of Spring Hill, Florida; a brother, Gerasimos Cavadias of Bergenfield, New Jersey; a sister, Olga Johnson and her husband, Walter of Holiday, Florida; twelve grandchildren and two great grandchildren.
Services
The family will have a service at 11:00 AM, on Friday, November 25, 2016 at the ST. Raphael Nicholas and Irene Orthodox Mission, 32888 US Highway 19 North,
Palm Harbor, Florida 34682 with Father George Ioannou, to officiate. The family will receive friends at the church from 9:30 AM until his service time.
Graveside Services
Full military honors by the United States Navy and Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 10209 will be at 2:30 Florida National Cemetery, 6502 SW 102nd Avenue, Bushnell, Florida 33513.

I am so sorry to here that you became another angel in Heaven, When your dear friend “Dan” called me last Saturday I was in total shock. You had become one of my friends here, I have been here for 4 yrs and you and Dan always welcome me at the DD table, the place that my parents went to everyday of theirs lives,since moving to Holida, you and Dan always watched out for all the partons of DD and they thought of you as Family…I will miss Our chats about how your Mom was doing and how your family was doing…And you listen how much I hated the heat here in Fl. and that I missed my home in NY.I will miss you and how much you truly cared for all others in your life…Thank you Steve, I know that My Mom met you at heavens gate and you both had a coffee together….Than you for your service to Our Country and all your wonderful stories about your service…martin and I will miss you very much….From the “The Bosch” and Moreira Family….
Though I did not know him personally, I know his son Ed very well. He must have been a very special father to have raised such an exceptional son. My condolences to all of his family. Kim.

I am very sorry to hear of the passing of Aristedes. He and I were neighbors in Ano-Glyfada while he was in the PEP program and I was stationed at Hellenikon AB. We both lived in the apartments at 32 Plapouta and became good friends during our respective assignments. He was definitely a great person!!
Looks like I was late again Chief…I mean CWO3. Thanks for taking this young country hick under your wing and showing me everything from engine rooms to Ouzo. You were like a foster dad to me beck then and I hate that we lost contact. I’ll seeya someday on the other side of that river. Good journey Aristedes Cavadias. You made a difference in this world…especially for me.
