Emma Jean Johnson, 77, of Largo, FL, passed away on Saturday, December 10, 2016, at Morton Plant Hospital in Clearwater, FL. She was born in Bainbridge, GA and moved to Florida before her first birthday. Emma grew up in Ruskin, FL, played the clarinet in high school and was the seventh of eight children.
Emma was married at age 17 to Richard Lynn Johnson and they moved to Pinellas County in 1962 from Tampa, FL. She was a homemaker, worked in her husband’s battery business and operated an in-home day care for many years. Emma loved her family and loved to cook. In her younger years, she sewed clothes, decorated wedding cakes and taught a 5 year old Sunday School Class.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Marvin L. and Eleanor Cooper; her sons, Richard, Jr., Ron, and Steve; brothers, Marvin, Jr., TL, and James E.; and sisters, Mildred, Louise and Dorothy. She is survived by her husband of 60 years, Richard; daughters, Debbie Brasfield, Pam Brown and Jeanie Sigouin; five grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren.
On Friday, December 16, 2016, services will be held at Gulf Coast Church, 13301 Walsingham Road, Largo, FL, 33774. The Public Gathering will commence at 10:30AM and the Funeral Service will start at 11:00AM. A graveside service will immediately follow at Serenity Gardens Memorial Park, 13401 Indian Rocks Road, Largo, FL, 33774.
