Joseph M. Cashman Sr.-SFC-US Army-Retired


Joseph M. Cashman Sr., US Army-Retired-SFC-Korean and Vietnam War Veteran- 83, of Largo, Florida funeral service is 11:00 AM, Friday, January 6, 2017 at ST Cecelia Catholic Church, 820 Jamine Way, Clearwater, Florida. Following the funeral mass, burial will be at Calvary Catholic Cemetery, 5233  118th Avenue North Clearwater, Florida  33760 will full military honors by the US Army and the American Legion Post 125. There will be visitation from 6:00 pm until a prayer service at 7:30 PM, Thursday, January 5, 2017 at Rhodes Funeral Home, 800 Druid Road East, Clearwater, Florida  33756. Joseph was born on January 1, 1933 and passed away at the Largo Medical Center, Largo, Florida on December 24, 2016.

Joseph is survived by his loving family: his daughter, Lori Cashman and her companion John McKinnon of Clearwater, Florida; brother, Daniel Cashman of Waterbury, Connecticut; four grandchildren: Jessica Cashman, Heather Cashman, Joseph E. Cashman and Deanna L. Hutchinson; four great-grandchildren: Raelynn Cashman, Rylie Fenner, Dillon Hutchinson and Kylie Fenner. He is predeceased in death by his parents, Richard F. and Alice M. (Bissell) Cashman, a son, Joseph M. Cashman Jr. and  sisters, Betty Flaherty, Dorothy Zaborosky, Eleanor D’Angelo and Catherine Black.  His surviving  nephews and nieces are: John D’Angelo, Jay D’Angelo, Ronald Black, William Black and nieces, Dooren Black and Judith Diorio.  He attended Sacred Heart Grammar School and High School.

SFC Cashman serviced our nation for over 23 years during the Korean and Vietnam War Eras. During his career he was awarded the Korean Service Medal; United National Service Medal; Army Commendation Medal; Good Conduct Medal w/ 6 Oak Leaf Clusters; National Defense Service Medal w/ one oak leaf cluster; Vietnam Service Medal; Vietnam Campaign Medal; Armed Forces Reserve Medal; Meritorious Unit Citation; Vietnam Cross of Gallantry w/ Palm; Expert Badge (Rifle); Vietnam Winter and Spring Campaign Medal and completed the Sanctuary Counteroffensive Phase VII course.  After his retirement from the US Army, he worked for the Department of Veteran Affairs Finance Division; the White House Staff and the State Department.  He belonged to the AAARP; American Legion Post 252; DAV; Knights of Columbus 4th Degree Council 3580; NARFE; and the VFW Post 14000.  He moved to the local area in  1976 from Washington, DC. SFC Cashman was a member of St Cecelia Catholic Church in Clearwater, Florida and St Peters and Paul Catholic Church in Waterbury, Connecticut. After retirement, he worked for the Veterans Administration (VA) in St Petersburg, Florida for 10 years.  In lieu of flowers, the family requests, that a donation be make to the American Heart Association in the Memory of Joseph M. Cashman Sr.
