Charles “Big C” Fischer was born on September 30, 1931 to Charles and Emma Jane (Schmidt) Fischer in Jamaica, New York. He passed away on January 18, 2017 at Northside Hospital in St. Petersburg, Florida.
Family
He is survived by his loving wife of 54 years, Carol (Witzman) Fischer; sons Carl (Kenna) Fischer and Charles I. Fischer; cousins Midge (Santo) Stefania, Paul (Annette) Felix, and Eddie Bradley.
Life
Big C, as he was known, joined the United States Army on January 22, 1952 in New York, New York. He was honorably discharged on May 21, 1954 at the rank of Private 2nd Class and was eligible to wear the National Defense Service Medal on his uniform. Music was a large part of Charles’ life. He was very passionate about Jazz music in particular and loved to play the trumpet. He was actually friends with and played with Maynard Ferguson.
Military Honors
A graveside service with military honors will take place at Bay Pines National Cemetery at a date that is to be determined. Military honors will be provided by the United States Army.
