David Charles Snyder, 94, of Largo, FL also known as Dad, Dave, Poppie, and Uncle Charlie passed away on Saturday, February 25th at home after a brief illness.
David was a loving, caring husband, father, and provider to his family. He was always willing to lend a helping hand and do whatever he could do to help his family, friends, and neighbors.
David leaves behind his daughter, Davanna (Sam) Hitt; his son, Leslie (Pauline) Snyder; six grandchildren, eleven great-grandchildren, and three great-great-grandchildren; and his sister, Nettie McKee who is currently 97 years of age.
After graduating from public school in Franklin, NY he married the love of his life, Viola Elizabeth Santic. He was then drafted into the United States Army during WWII stationed in New Guinea. David was extremely proud of serving his country, and of the work he did as part of Gem Society of North Carolina in Franklin.
There was no job too big or small. David loved working with his hands and learning new things to include wire wrapping jewelry, teaching others lapidary, wood carving, and bowling. David learned all he could about computers and creating keepsake cards for family and friends. He was also an avid sports fan.
David loved life, his wife, and family. So I think it fitting that all who came to know him, loved him.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests all donations be made to Suncoast Hospice Bronze Team.
A graveside service will be held Thursday, March 9, 2017 at 10:45 am at Bay Pines National Cemetery, 10000 Bay Pines Blvd, Bay Pines, Florida 33760.
All are welcome to sign his guestbook below and share your special memories with his family.
Dave was a one of a kind special guy and I’m so glad my husband and I met him and became friends when we moved from Florida to Franklin, N.C. and became involved with the Gem & Mineral Club and the Gem Museum. Dave was a jack of all trades and was always using those skills to be of help when and where needed. His many years of service as Manager of the Gem & Mineral Museum is commendable.
My sympathy to his family. May God bless and be with all of you,
Shirley Baughman
You were so strong and independent and had such a good heart, always wanting to help people in need. I always enjoyed time with you, you had such great stories about your time in the service as well as any other stories. I will miss all the memories of Christmas and thanksgivings with you and Nannie. You will always be in my heart. Love you!!!
I am so sorry for family ..such a loss of both parents now. They were both prime shining examples of good human beings.
