David R. Hoeflinger


David R. Hoeflinger, Sr., 78, of Syracuse, IN and Clearwater, FL funeral service is 11:00 AM, Friday, March 10, 2017 at the Starkey Road Baptist Church, 8800 Starkey Road, Clearwater, Florida with Pastor Thomas Benefiel, to officiate. The family will receive friends at the church from 9:30 AM until service time. Graveside services with full military honors by the VFW Post 10209 and the US Army Honors and Ceremonial Team will be 1:30 PM, Friday, March 10, 2017 at the Florida National Cemetery, 6502 SW 102nd Avenue, Bushnell, FL  33513.

David presently resided in Clearwater, FL and passed away at his son’s home in Syracuse, IN on Sunday, March 5, 2016 at 6 am. David was born on September 27, 1938 in South Bend, IN to the late Harold D. and Ethel (Burden) Hoeflinger.

Surviving are his children Mark Hoeflinger and Kelly Dennis; both of Elkhart, IN; David R. (Tammy) Hoeflinger of Syracuse, IN. Also Surviving is his brother, Bob (Rita) Sheire of St Petersburg, FL and ten grandchildren: Janice, Barbie, Wynona, Karly, Mick, Kyle, Chelsea, Chase, Catlin and Tyler and twelve great grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his infant son, David Scott Hoeflinger and his siblings Marvin and Patricia.

David enlisted in the US Army and served honorably from 1962 thru 1967. He later became a Tool and Die Maker, working for over 40 years with Bamar Plastics in South Bend, IN retiring at the age of 58. David enjoyed spending time antiquing and owned his own antique shop for many years.

In his spare time, he enjoyed playing golf and fishing. He also enjoyed watching NASCAR races and attended many races throughout his lifetime. David was also loved serving the Lord and was a lifelong member of Brethren Christian Church on Osceola.

The Hoeflinger family wishes to express their deepest gratitude to the staff, nurses and physicians of Bay Pines VA  Hospice for the care and concern given to David during his time of need. In his memory, donations may be given to Bay Pines VA Hospice Hospice.
