James J. Ambrose, 91, of Palm Harbor, Florida funeral service is 11:00 am, Saturday, March 18, 2017 St. Luke’s’ The Evangelist Catholic Church, 2757 Alderman Road, Palm Harbor, Florida 34648 with Father Paul Kochu, to officiate. The family will receive friends at the church on Saturday morning form 10:00 am until service time. Graveside services are 11:30 am, Monday, March 20, 2017 at Florida National Cemetery, 6502 SW 102nd Avenue, Bushnell, Florida with Father Tom Dieter, the US Army Honors and Ceremonial Team and the VFW post 10209 to officiate.
James was born on February 28, 1926 in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania to Daniel and Agnes (Weigand) Ambrose and passed away on March 12, 2017 at Harbor Chase ALF, Palm Harbor, Florida. He was a retired Plant Engineer for Harmarville; a US Army Veteran of World War II and was honorably discharged as a SSGT; a member of St Luke’s The Evangelist Catholic Church in Palm Harbor, Florida and a member of the Knights of Columbus. During his military time, he was awarded the “Bronze Star” for actions on the Rhine River during World War II while serving under General George Patton. After his US Army service, James returned to the Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania area and joined the 171 st Air Transport Group of the Pennsylvania Air National Guard in Pittsburgh and flew as a “flight engineer” on the C-121 “Constellation”. He also was a avid and dedicated Pittsburgh Steeler Fan.
Preceded in death by his parents and his beloved wife, Edith on February 19, 2017, he is survived by his loving family: sons: Joe Ambrose and his wife, Kathleen of Philadelphia, Pennsylvania; Jim Ambrose and his wife, Joanne of Syracuse, New York; a daughter, Patricia Ganong and her husband, Harvey of Palm Harbor, Florida; seven grandchildren and seven great grandchildren.
