Elizabeth Dare Peacock Gaines, 91 of Largo, and formerly of Boca Grande and Homosassa Florida passed away on June 26, 2017.
Lib was born on December 6, 1925 in Lexington, North Carolina, a daughter of the late Oliver J Peacock and Annie Eliza Grimes Peacock.
Lib retired as a Post Master from Boca Grande, Florida. She was a member of the First Methodist church of Boca Grande and Homosassa, Florida. She loved gardening, playing Bridge and was an avid reader. She was a volunteer and very active in her churches. Her family remembers her as loving, gracious and hospitable. She was very strong and independent-truly a southern lady.
Beside her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Paul Edgar Gaines, one sister, Anna Peacock Draa, 2 brothers, Robert (Bobby) Peacock and Johnnie Peacock. She was the last surviving member of her family.
Survivors include 2 sons: Paul Edgar Gaines Jr. and his wife Barbara of Atlanta, Georgia and Lee Peacock Gaines and his partner Larry Kelleher of Sarasota. Three daughters: Pamela Gaines Cheney and her husband Tom of Largo. Patricia G Bass and her husband Bobby of Hernando, Florida and Pollyanna Williams and her husband Michael of Sarasota.
Eight grandchildren: Andrew (Amanda) Cheney, Joshua (Wendy) Cheney, Elizabeth (Jared)C. Collier, Keith Bass, Karla (Ray) Prince, Mathew (Sandy) Bass and Rob (Rachel) Bass Jr. and Levi Gaines. Elizabeth also had 13 great grandchildren.
A private family service was held and burial will take place at Bay Pines National Cemetery.
