Martha Virginia Thompson Ewell

Martha Virginia Thompson Ewell, 90, of Clearwater, FL, passed away on June 27, 2017, at her home.  She was born in New London, MD.  She had lived in Pinellas County, FL for many years.

She was someone that exemplified the term “homemaker”.  Martha was a great cook and a wonderful hostess. When cooking for a crowd she would worry there would not be enough food, but of course there was always plenty. And for dessert you couldn’t beat her Lemon or Chocolate Meringue pies.

Martha was devoted to her husband of 67 years and took excellent care of him especially in his last days when he needed her most.  She was a loving grandmother who enjoyed giving gifts and never missed an occasion to send a greeting card. She was funny and a joy to be with.  Her favorite pass times included playing cards with family or friends, cheering on the Tampa Bay Rays, watching a golf game on television and making her yard beautiful.

Martha was a very organized person, who had her routine that she did not like to change. She enjoyed her weekly visits to the hairdresser, grocery store and bank and daily chats with her neighbors. Martha was a cherished friend to those who knew her.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Leonard; her parents Freeman and Lillian Thompson; her sons, Jimmy Ewell and Lenny Ewell; and her sisters, Anna Belle Bales, Betty Schmidt, Elsie Stanton and Brenda Sharrer, She is survived by her son, Kenneth Ewell, San Jacinto, CA; daughter-in-law, Arlene Ingram, Gainesville, FL; Brother, William Thompson, Hampstead, MD; sister, Fay Fields, Mount Airy, MD; five grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; many nieces and nephews; and many friends.

She will be interred at Florida National Cemetery with her husband.

Martha requested there be no funeral service for her, so to honor her request yet acknowledge her life, the family is planning to have a time of remembrance in a private room at her and Leonard’s favorite pizza restaurant.   Friends and family are invited to drop in and share some stories and pizza. Friday night July 7th, from 6-8 pm at Country Pizza Inn (Countryside Location), 25856 US Highway 19 N, Clearwater, FL 33763.
