loyd Donald “Don” Amburgey was born on February 2, 1926 in Lexington, Kentucky to Linville and Della (Bennett) Amburgey. He passed away on November 28, 2017 at Bay Pines VA Medical Center in Bay Pines, Florida.
Family
Don is survived by his first cousin Darrell Bennett, a Marine, of Ocala, Florida and his niece Jillian Amburgey, of Whittier, North Carolina.
Military
Don joined the Army at Fort Bragg, North Carolina at the age of 18 on August 14, 1944. He was honorably discharged on July 9, 1946 at the rank of Corporal. At the time of his discharge, Corporal Amburgey was entitled to wear the Bronze Star Medal, the European African Middle Eastern Campaign Ribbon with three bronze battle stars, Army Good Conduct Medal, World War II Victory Medal, Occupation Medal and Combat Infantry Badge on his uniform. Don saw action at the Battle of the Bulge, Rhineland and Central Europe Campaigns.
Service
A graveside service with military honors provided by the United States Army will be held on Wed. June 20, 2018 at 2:00 PM in Arlington National Cemetery.
