Samuel “Sam” Richard Garite, sailed away at 71 on January 9, 2019, in Florida Hospital. He was born in New York, New York on July 15, 1947, to Anthony and Marie DaGiaimo (Garite) and was raised with his only sibling, brother, Matthew and his wife Biby) Garite in New York. Later on in life, he found the water in Florida and settled down, became a resident married, Susan Kay Gilbert. They shared 20 years and had two beautiful kids, son, Michael, Rachel, Garite and daughter, Christina Garite. After 20 years they parted ways.
Sam was a car salesmen and he was good at his job. He also got his Captain’s License, he enjoyed fishing, being on or near the water and being on the boat. He enjoyed spending time with his son and daughter, 2 grandsons, Bryce and Garite Riley, 2 nephews Matthew and Michael Garite. His special friends, Leroy, Kathy (Roscoe), dog (Bebe), along with many more friends, he made his voyage, being a kind, caring person to others and he was well liked by all he crossed paths with. He enjoyed the Keys and the scenery and enjoyed Jimmy Buffett and the music. Sam was a long-time resident of Crystal Beach.
A ceremony in his honor will be held at the Crystal Beach Pier on January 22nd at 5:30PM. Share a special memory you shared with a Great man, son, brother, father, uncle and friend. Following the ceremony, we will go back to Christ Church to see a slide show of some of his life captured and dinner for family and friends.
As we know in our hearts, he has sailed on to his next journey.
