Florence June Veldkamp, 83, of Dunedin, passed away on May 7th at Manor Care in Dunedin. Florence was born on June 8, 1935, in Paterson, NJ, to the late Frank and Beatrice (Westergaard) Rose.
Florence graduated from the public school system in Paterson, NJ, and worked in the area at many places including Curtiss-Wright, Haband, PayService and Irving Savings & Loan.
Florence married Art Veldkamp in July 1958. They raised their family in Hawthorne, NJ, and moved to St. Petersburg, FL, in 1986. Florence worked for many years in Retirement Plan Services at Raymond James.
Florence was a past member of Elks Lodge 1224 of St. Petersburg and was a (reluctant) bowler at Ten Pins Lanes until Art became ill in January 2009. Flo enjoyed knitting, walking on the beach & at Veterans Park, and following the Tampa Bay Rays on TV and in person. She was quick to put on a pot of tea when anyone came to visit. Most of all, Florence enjoyed her time with family, especially her grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
Florence is survived by her sister Eileen Cusack; brother George Rose and wife Kathy; daughter Donna Klein and husband Joe, daughter Karen Lee and husband Chuck; granddaughters Isabell, Rachel and Eileen; and her great-grandchildren Olivia and George. Florence was predeceased by her husband Art; her brother Frank Rose; and her sisters Doris Hollenback and Ethel Beveridge.
The family would like to extend their heartfelt thanks to the staff at Mease Manor Assisted Living in Dunedin, Arden Courts in Palm Harbor, and Manor Care in Dunedin, for giving Florence outstanding care when she was no longer able to live independently.
Interment at Bay Pines National Cemetery will be private. Donations in Florence’s memory may be made to the Alzheimer’s Association (alz.org).
