Betty Ann Moss

In loving memory of Betty Ann Moss, age 83 of Mt. Dora, FL who went to be with our Father on Father’s Day, June 16, 2019. Betty was born on April 23, 1936 in Washington, D.C. to William Scheetz and Mary Roberts. She was mainly raised by her maternal grandmother, Georgia Olive Roberts, in Orange County, Virginia. Her early years were spent on a farm doing all the farm things; bringing cows to the barn for milking, feeding her pet sheep, chasing chickens and playing with her many cousins.

She was preceded in death by her only sibling, Margie Covan and her husband, Alan Moss.

Betty found the love of her life at 20 years old and married Alan Moss on November 3, 1956. They were married in D.C. after a three month courtship and left for Wyoming to work in his family-owned business. They moved back to Virginia and then eventually settled down in Apopka, FL to run a family business of horticulture and later orange groves. They were married for almost 50 years which brought them the blessings of 8 children, 17 grandchildren, and 8 great grand-children.

She traveled to many states with her husband in their RV. She loved the flowing water of creeks and brooks, and sunsets anywhere. They traveled abroad to Europe, New Zealand, Hawaii and the Caribbean. She worked as a hospital operator and later enjoyed working seasonal jobs. She enjoyed working conventions in Disney Hotels the most. Her deepest values were “family love, caring, sharing respect for one another and their property.” She often stated to her kids “if you can’t say something nice, don’t say anything at all.”

She loved being with her family, sharing stories, and laughter. She held a special personal relationship with all of her children and grandchildren. In conversations she had a gift of making you feel as if you were the only one she was interested in. Her vibrant personality was conveyed in her smile, chuckle and bright scarves and jewelry. She had her sharp wit until the end. She kept everyone on their toes with her “zingers”. She enjoyed good humor, smelling the roses and greeting each day slowly. Curiosity and procrastination were her trademarks. Most of all her life tells a story of love. She was dedicated to God, her husband and her children.

There will be a funeral mass at St. Patrick’s Catholic Church in Mt. Dora on June 24th at 9:00 A.M. followed by a lunch social. She will be laid to rest beside her loving husband at Florida National Cemetery, Bushnell, FL.
