Frederick J. Williams Jr. was born on July 5, 1930 in Queens, New York to parents Frederick Williams and Winifred Normile. He was an adorable baby with reddish brown locks, siring him the nickname “Red!” Along with his three loving sisters: Norma, Jean and little Carol, they grew up in their family home on Marsden St. in Jamaica, Queens. On July 31, 1947, at the age of 17, Fred joined the US Navy as an Airman and he was very proud of it. He serviced planes and assisted with landings and take-offs while deployed to six different vessels and stations. One would rarely see Fred without his Navy hat which he wore proudly until his last days. After his service, he specialized in watch sales. His sales pitch always starting with “Have I got a deal for you!” and ending in a sale!
Fred married the love of his life, Gloria Segen in 1953 and raised three children: Gloria Jean, Rosemary and Frederick Williams III. They would often vacation in upstate New York and Florida but dreamed of buying a house in Tampa close to his dear sister Carol and family. Despite many obstacles in his life, he accomplished that dream and called it home to all his family! He was grateful for all the family near and far, their love, happiness and time together! Fred moved to West Bay Nursing Home in Oldsmar, Florida. Although it was a difficult transition with his health declining, he made the best of it. He was the leader of the pack! And he always made friends, sang karaoke, played bingo and attended church services. He lit up the room wherever he was – a heart as big as they come! The most important gift he gave us was his strong faith and never-ending prayers for everyone. A gift we will hold in our hearts forever!
Our Beloved Fred, Freddie, Red, Son, Dad, Grandpa, Great Grandpa, Godfather, Brother, Uncle, Cousin, and Friend went to his final eternal home with Jesus on November 20, 2019. And no matter what trials, hardships, obstacles, addictions, or problems we struggle with, we should put our trust and faith in God. That He will help us through and help us lead our lives according to His will. Fred leaves behind this special legacy for which we are forever grateful. We love you Fred and until we meet again, Rest Peacefully.
