Mike O’Meara, 75, of Clearwater, died December 26, 2019. Born in Queens, NY to Frank & Elizabeth O’Meara, He came here with his wife Susan, in 2002 from Jackson Heights, N.Y. He worked as a New York State Corrections Officer and also a bartender, which he loved. He served his country as a Sergeant during the Vietnam era as an Intelligence Assistant and was a rifle marksman. He was born and raised a Catholic, receiving his education in Catholic schools. He was a member of the Vietnam Veterans of America, the American Legion, AMVETS and was a Past President of the Pinellas County Veterans Council. Mike was married to his beloved wife, Susan, from 1989 until her passing in 2009. They were very active in charitable organizations while living in Florida. He is survived by his sister, Jackie O’Meara Iuliucci, Wantagh, NY, his friend, Dianne Magee, Largo, FL his cousin Eileen Giorgetti, Lutz, FL and many loved cousins and friends. He will be buried with his wife and his parents in Flushing, NY. Memorial services will be held Saturday, January 11 2020 at 1 pm. at the AMVETS Post #67, 512 S Lincoln Ave, Clearwater, FL 33756. Contributions can be made in his memory to “Operation Toy Soldier” which provides toys for Tampa Bay military families at MacDill and local Coast Guard stations.

Mike was a great guy, loved people and would do anything for a fellow veteran. For many years you would see him at Veterans Day, Memorial Day celebrations, anywhere veterans were gathered. He will be missed greatly.
I am sure I was a classmate of Mikes at one time while at Xavier High School.
I was also a Vietnam combat veteran … as was Mike.
Rest in peace Mike … and welcome home form Vietnam.

Mike was instrumental in launching my bartending career at the renowned BUDDs in the HEIGHTS. Always a positive guy. Never a bad word spread about anyone. Heaven merits another angel. He will be remembered as a gent. God bless him .
Everlasting Mike. Your work in establishing the Pinellas County Veterans Council, allowing our Royal Canadian Legion Post 144 to be a Charter Member, leading to so much being done on behalf of Veterans old and new, will be remembered for as long as we live. Motivating local politicians to be involved with Veterans, attending every ceremony you could fit into your busy schedule, taking time to have a Guinness with a veteran friend, you were always an advocate. Mike and I go way back to Jackson Heights, NY where we became friends and “regulars” at Budds, also in Jackson Heights. I also knew his wife, Susan, who was a very special person. Although we have not been together for sometime since his move to Florida, we always kept in touch via email and Facebook. As a fellow Vietnam Veteran, we shared many stories and experiences whenever we were together. He was an avid Veteran advocate, especially for Vietnam Veterans. I will remember things we shared, especially at Budds and Griffins upstate. His passing brings sadness and I will remember him always. May the Lord bring him peace.
Mike…you are with Susan and no longer suffering,…but you will be missed on my trips to Florida. Rest In Peace….
