Earl Edward “Sonny” Hendricks, 76, of Palm Coast, FL passed away peacefully on May 19th, 2020 at Kindred Hospital North Florida. For many years he fought complications after an injury to his spinal cord. His family will always miss him.
Born January 1st, 1944 in Kankakee, IL he was the son of the late Charles and Isabelle (Melville) Hendricks. He married the love of his life, Edna Candido, on November 22nd, 1987 at Indian Rocks Baptist Church in Largo, FL. They spent 32 wonderful years together.
He lived in his hometown until 1973 when he and his parents moved to St. Petersburg, FL until May of 1996. Then Sonny, Edna and their daughter, Chared, moved to Jacksonville, FL and in 2001 they built a home in Palm Coast, FL. He lived there until his hospitalization in October of 2019.
Sonny, professionally, was a very talented computer programmer. He worked for First Florida Bank in Tampa from 1983 to 1993 as a Computer Programming Analyst. Then from June 1993 to December 1998 Sonny worked for IBM, CSX, AT&T, Universal Cards, and BCBS of Florida. Starting in April 2000 he worked for Total Systems Services in Jacksonville, FL as a Senior Programming Analyst until the office closed in November 2006.
Sonny loved NASCAR racing, which was his all time favorite sport. Every Sunday it was a tradition in the house to watch that week’s NASCAR race. Sonny also spent time with his family driving to different surrounding cities, going to the beach and watching the sunset. He also loved spending time with his grandchildren. Sonny was proud and had high esteem that he was able to learn to drive and learned programming languages since he was quadriplegic. He was very self-sufficient and lived his life as if he did not have any disability. One of the greatest times of his life was when the family attended the 1998 Pepsi 400 in Daytona, which was the first race held under the lights.
