Beth Ann Canner, 68, of Largo, Florida passed away on Friday, July 31, 2020 under Hospice care at her home surrounded by family. She was born in Chicago, Illinois to Thomas Edward Roraff and Joyce Ann Pederson Roraff; and moved here as a child with her mother and her sisters.
1970, Beth graduated from Seminole High school. One year later, she met her husband, Richard Dee Canner, in the local Publix where he worked. They had a whirlwind romance and married four months later on May 27, 1971. Their first child was their daughter, Racquel Ann Canner (Strong), born October 11, 1971. Beth loved Disney World and they took their daughter often. Beth’s second child was their son, Richard Charles Canner, born December 2, 1974. Beth loved taking family vacations and the couple worked very hard to have one every year. They were the basis of many family memories!
Beth continued her education and became a graduate of a Nursing School in Clearwater. She became a Licensed Practical Nurse. Her first nursing position was at Largo Medical Center. Then she moved right next door to Diagnostic Clinic of Largo, and finally to that clinic’s Surgery Center. There was a short transitional time where she was a nurse for Hospice. Beth loved that job and making her patients’ end of life care needs as comfortable as she could. However, the emotions of assisting the patients’ families during these times was too hard on her spirit and she moved back into medical center nursing.
Dogs were the first love of Beth’s life. She loved training them in obedience, agility, and conformation. Her favorite breeds were the Bearded Collie, Shetland Sheepdog, and Border Collie. She even had a few litters of Beardies as a Breeder. Beth has many awards that she earned from the American Kennel Club with several of her dogs in the show ring. She loved this world so much that she studied and became and Agility judge for both the American Kennel Club and the United Kennel Club. She spent one or two weekends a month traveling the country as an Agility judge! She also was a very proud member of Project PUP (Pets Uplifting People) and volunteered time in the local nursing homes and children’s hospitals.
In August 2002, Beth suffered a brain aneurysm that left her severely disabled and unable to nurse or continue working with dogs. Beth’s fighting spirit was definitely challenged during this time. She never stopped trying to remain independent and not rely on people. During this time, Beth and Richard took to his job at the time, long-distance trucking. They took the opportunity to spend time together and see more of our beautiful country. She was very proud that they had seen 45 of the states!
Beth is grandmother to 5 grandchildren and 2 step-grandchildren. Her favorite was first-born granddaughter, Breanna Joy (Racquel). Noelle Bethany (Racquel) was second-born, Madison Kimberly (Richard) was third-born, and then the twins Cameron and Cayden (Richard). She had step-grandchildren Lakeshia and Lamarion (Richard).
Beth is survived by her husband, Richard; her daughter, Racquel (husband Bill); her son, Richard (wife Michelle); her sister, Lorrie Bornick; her sister, Jill Storace; and her dearest cousin, Ronald Motyka.
