William “Bill” E. Smith, 84, of Palm Bay, Florida passed away at home on June 16, 2021. He was born on July 13, 1936 in Bryn Mawr, Pennsylvania to Robert and Elizabeth (Meyer) Smith. He moved to Kent County, Maryland in 1958 where he later met and married Dorothy, his wife of 45 years. He moved his family to Largo, Florida in 1977. He then moved to Palm Bay, Florida in 2017. Bill was a member of First Baptist Church of Indian Rocks in Largo, Florida for 44 years. Bill was also a member of the “Patchwork of Grace” ministry at FBC Melbourne.
Bill graduated from Pierce Business School in 1958 with a degree in accounting. He worked as an accountant for Lester Pianos, American Express, Washington College, Hogan’s Insurance, Cassidy Insulation, Lincoln Financial Corp and later retired from Eckerd Corporation in the Help Desk Call Center. Bill was a loving son, brother, husband, father, father-in-love, grandfather, great grandfather, uncle and a loving friend to all.
He was preceded in death by his loving wife, Dorothy (Newsome) Smith in August 2010, brothers Edward, Robert, Howard and his sister Bertha May Scroggy. Bill is survived by his sons, George; David and his wife Deborah (DeBusk) both of Seminole, Florida; Robert and his wife Noelle (Bennett) of Palm Bay, Florida; his daughter Deborah and her husband Aaron Ray of New Port Richey, Florida; eight grandchildren: Michael, Karen (Michael); David (Stephanie), Matthew; Charles, Rebecca; Sierra and Savannah as well as 6 great grandchildren: Liam and Landon; Quintin, Madison, Annabelle and Josiah.
There will be a visitation starting at 10:30am and service at 11:00am on Saturday, June 19, 2021, in the chapel at First Baptist Church of Indian Rocks, 12685 Ulmerton Rd, Largo, Florida 33774. Additionally, there will be a Celebration of Life service on Saturday June 26, 2021, at the First Baptist Church of Melbourne, 3301 Dairy Rd, Melbourne, Florida 32904.

As part of ‘Patchwork of Grace,’ I got to know Bill very well. He was a wonderful man and a lover of his Lord. Bill was very busy with the Lord’s work, helping Patchwork of Grace send gifts around the world. We shall dearly miss Bill and will always cherish the fond memories. I will always remember our group lunches. We had such fun!!! We pray for the Lord to bless Bill’s family and thank them for introducing us to Bill. Save a seat for us Bill at the Lord’s table!!!
Mr. Bill will be missed at Patchwork of Grace, he was such a sweet and special man to all of us. I will miss him at our weekly lunch outings, he was always ready to go. Love you Mr. Bill!
