Edward Dean Batson, 84, of Largo, FL passed away peacefully with family by his side on June 30th, 2021 at Suncoast Hospice Mid-Pinellas.
Born January 5th, 1937 in Philadelphia, PA he was the son of the late Wilbur and Elinor (Kurz) Batson. On October 14, 1961 he married the love of his life Kathleen Macready in Camden NJ, and together they shared 60 years of marriage.
Ed’s survivors include his wife Kathleen Batson, son Michael T. Batson (Terrie Ware), daughters Maureen Harvey (David Harvey) and Jeanne Marie Prendergast (Ralph Lutz), along with 12 grandchildren and 9 great-grandchildren. He is preceded in death by son Edward John Batson, daughter Heather Noelle Batson, and grandson Luke Prendergast.
Ed was a life-long law enforcement officer and continued to serve even after his official retirement. He was on the force with Philadelphia Police Department for 20 years and later Indian Shores Police Department for 8 years and Pinellas County Sheriffs Office for 10 years. Ed also served in the United States Marine Corps in the late 50’s and early 60’s. He moved to Pinellas county in 1981 after leaving Philadelphia when he retired. Ed loved to play golf as much as he could and loved spending time with his family.
Services arranged and hosted by Veterans Funeral Care (830 N. Belcher Rd) in Clearwater, FL. Viewing/Visitation will take place at Veterans Funeral care on Wednesday July 7th, from 6pm – 8pm. Funeral Mass will be at St. Catherine of Siena Catholic Church (1955 S. Belcher Rd) in Clearwater at 12noon. Ed will be laid to rest with military honors at Sylvan Abbey Cemetery (2853 Sunset Point Rd) at 2pm. All family, friends, LEOs and Marines are encouraged to attend.

Sending love to the fam down in Florida. Heaven got a good one because Uncle Ed was the best. We’re going to miss him when we tee as a family off again but we will be thinking of him the whole time.
