Robert John Holmes, 74, of North Fort Myers, FL, passed away on August 6, 2021. His wife, Judy, and his daughter, Jennifer, were by his side. Robert was a lively, thoughtful, and compassionate man. His wife Judy was the love of his life. He loved his daughters and their families dearly. His cats were an unending source of pleasure, especially when they helped him with projects around the house. Robert was proud of his service to his country during the Vietnam War. He was a member of the Crusaders, 187th Assault Helicopter Company. He worked at U.S. Sugar in Clewiston for more than 35 years where he was known as Sherlock by his friends and co-workers. When he retired, he joined the housekeeping staff at Gulf Coast Medical Center in Fort Myers. He was a hard worker who never lost sight of the humanity of the people around him.
Robert is survived by his wife, Judy; his daughter, Doris (Jimmy) Pencarinha; his daughter Jennifer (Craig) Engelson, five grandchildren, Brittney, Bradley and Bayleypearl Pencarinha; Brayden and Timothy Engelson and two great grandchildren, Caroline Stanfield and Presley Engelson.
Graveside services will be held on Tuesday August 17, 12.30 p.m. at the National Cemetery in Sarasota. The address is 9810 State Road 72, Sarasota, FL 34241.

I’m so sorry about Robert. He will be greatly missed at GCMC. I will always treasure our talks about our cats. Robert was one of a kind. My condolences to the family. May he rest in peace and pain free.
