Ann Canfield Smart formerly of Ho-Ho-Kus, NJ and Spring Hill, FL died on September 2, 2021. She was 86 years old.
Life
Born and raised in Belmont, MA, after graduating from Smith College, she was a teacher at the Belmont Hill School. She moved to Manhattan and the Bronx, and worked for the Girl Scout Council of Greater NY. She then moved to Ho-Ho-Kus, NJ where she raised her family. During that time, she was the co-founder of the Ho-Ho-Kus Cooperative Nursery School, and a Camp Director for various summer camps run by the Girl Scouts and the YWCA. She was employed by the Girl Scout Council of Bergen County as the Director of Development, where she worked for over 25 years and also served on the Executive Board of the Volunteer Center of Bergen County. When she retired, she and her husband, William Smart, moved to Spring Hill, Florida, where she spent over twenty happy years, enjoying the warm weather, playing bocce and participating in various church and community activities. She has been a resident of Spring Valley, CA for the past 2½ years.
Family
She is predeceased by her parents, Haskins and Anne (nee Waterman) Canfield, her brother, Frederick Canfield, and her husband. She was the devoted sister of David Canfield, the loving mother of Heather Mailander (nee Bolster) and her husband Steven, Erica Marota (nee Bolster) and her husband Mario, and Gardner Bolster and his wife Tabitha (nee Llera); the supportive stepmother of Deborah Moltisanti, Jennifer Smart, and William Smart; the proud grandmother of Bradley, Alexander, and Christopher Mailander; Brianna and Gina Marota; Samuel and Susannah Bolster; Anthony and Allison Moltisanti; Christopher and Kalyn Smart; and the caring aunt to many nieces and nephews.
Interment was at the Florida National Cemetery, in Bushnell, Florida.
Special Considerations
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made in her name to the Alzheimer’s Association at or Girl Scouts of the USA.
Ann believed in me, mentored me, and helped me love summers at camp. Thank you, Ann.
