Charles Coleman

Charles Coleman was born on October 11,1922 in Victor W.V.
He died on Tuesday August 31st 2021 at Suncoast Hospice in Pinellas Park, Fl.
Charles Mason Coleman was known to most as Chuck and to his family as Pop Pop. He started life in the rural mountains of Victor, West Virginia where he met his life long love Jean Adair Holmes. At the age of 19 he entered the US Navy. He bravely served our country during WWII in the Pacific War Zone aboard the USS Steele DE-8 as an EMIC Electrician Mate First Class, tasked with convoy escorts and anti-submarine warfare. One memory he often shared from this time was sailing through the Panama Canal and marveling at its superior engineering. In 1953 he settled with his wife in Largo, Florida.  He used his skills to start his own business, Coleman Installations.

Chuck was married to Jean, his highschool sweetheart, for 75 years. Together they raised and are survived by 5 children. Martha Fenner, John Coleman, Jil Delaney, Kim Coleman, and Chuck Coleman. He is survived by 14 Grandchildren and 13 Great Grandchildren.

One of his most loved hobbies for many years was square dancing.  His love of travel brought him to places such as Hawaii, many Florida beach vacations, towns throughout Georgia, California, Bahamas, and even revisiting the Panama Canal for his 70th wedding anniversary. He traveled with his son John to Washington D.C. to be recognized as part of the Greatest Generation through the Honor Flight program.

At 98 years of age, Charles Mason would often say his secret to a long life is having a great attitude. He would tell the story of perception and how you can see anything in a positive way. He would even upend his cane and call it his golf putter and then laugh. His loving family will carry memories of Pop Pop’s endearing demeanor, happy, lively personality and jokes. He was deeply loved and appreciated for all he was and did for his family. He was a role model of how good a human could be. His constant smile will be missed.

There will be a private family service at Bay Pines National Cemetery.

The Coleman family has asked that in lieu of flowers for memorial donations to be made to Suncoast Hospice.
